So at peg would you run a 28/78? Is it about 2 teeth from OCRC?

They work good entering but really push on power from what I hear.

i ran 34/78 with a novak 13.5 at peg...worked great. Had tons of power but really still needed more gear to smooth out the bottom end a little haha. Was totally manageable with some radio adjustments though

Josh,

For my T4, I ran a 27/78 at Pegasus in 13.5

Not true in all case's. Especially when downsiding a jump into a turn. aids in planting the front wheels.

I run lead on the front and when it falls off i can tell my steering isn't as sharp.

especially on power if it keeps the nose down more. Think about it.

I didnt specify but I was thinking T4. I remember you running your 13.5 in your b4 and wanting more gear.

more gear would definately make it lightning on the straight but it was plenty fast with that gear as anyways haha.

K so the slipper plates fit around the 69t kimbrough and now im trying to put the slipper pegs in. I tried poking one through with an exacting knife and i cut into the peg and gashed the spur a little. Should be fine but exacto knife wont do it. Any other tips?

The exacto worked best for me. Remember you are just putting enough pressure on it to pick it up and put it in the spur gear holes, thats it.

Obviously there is a "slipper eliminator" out there. But our cars have the slipper clutch on the car for many reasons; diff life, transmission wear, handling, and weight bias...

Below I have created a list of parts, mostly AE parts and 1 Losi part to make this conversion.

These parts you will need to acquire:

T3 Slipper Plate (outer) -- ASC9252
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LX3446&P=SM

T3 Slipper Pad -- ASC9253
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LX3447&P=SM

T3 Spur Gear Bushing -- ASC6599
http://aedownloads.com/downloads/item_photos/6599.jpg

T3 Slipper Spring and Nut -- ASC6587
http://aedownloads.com/downloads/item_photos/6587.jpg

T3 Spur gear screws -- ASC6568
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LX2862&P=7

Losi Hydra Drive Spring Cup and Spring Kit -- LOSA3124
http://images.amainhobbies.com/image...e/losa3124.jpg

This part you will already have-

B4 Slipper Plate (Inner) -- ASC9604
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXEAD0&P=SM

On the Losi part A-3124. You will need to cut one end of this spacer flush, make sure you keep the side that is "keyed" the same way as the top shaft. Once this is cut you are ready to assemble the slipper clutch.

I have created a transmission blow apart drawing. This drawing shows the basic assembly of the slipper clutch.

Also shown in this drawing are the new parts used in the assembly, these have been highlighted yellow.

Here is the link for the blow apart drawing-

I originally assembled this geared at 31/69. It seems to be pretty close for the power band. But I would recommend carrying a 30,31,32 pinion selection...

This spur set up keeps the motor weight almost exactly the same as if it were a brushed stock motor

Let me know if you have any questions.

I know when I built this set up the 69 spur fit with clearance, I'm sure that you can go to a smaller spur gear if needed. I'm sure there are many companies who produce spurs below a 69, I would think you'd be okay down to a 65 or so... However, the 69/31 put the motor in the same place of the standard brushed motor it replaced along with the 78 spur.

When you assemble it, you will see that the T3 Slipper plate is tapered away from the spur gear edge, which gives it a good amount of clearance from the outer lip of the spur gear.

Also, anyone who is considering the traxxas slipper pegs...

They are NOT the same material as what AE uses. The traxxas pegs are heat sensitive, and as they begin to heat, the start to slip. This will give you a very inconsistent slipper action, causing an inconsistent feeling car.

I have not had any problems yet with the pegs but i have not run them much. I really dont understand what associated or Kyosho dont just make some smaller spurs so we dont have to go through this. It doesnt seem like it would be that hard

It's being worked on, up to a few months ago it's never been a high demand part. I was told a 75 and 72 are being made.

72 is the smallest that will fit with the slipper pads. To go smaller than 72 an alternate will be needed. Such as the pegs or T3 clutch.

I used a small flat nosed pliers. Kinda like small needlenose, but with a square end... I would pick them up and carefully twist the tootsie rolls back and forth and slide it in the hole in the gear. Don't squeeze too hard and if you have to push too hard, then your in crooked. Are we still talking about spur gears???? LOL! I will try mine tomorow night and let you know how it goes.
