I have a legit question for some guys in here who may run alot of 2wd stock. I run mainly 1/8 buggy nitro, but picked up a couple B4's a couple weeks back to run some indoor this winter. I went and raced this past saturday and the buggy handled great and the only place anyone was faster was down the straight. I was running a new Trinity CO27 Pro and I tried a 22, 23, 24 pinion during qualifying, when I got up to the 24 I was overgeared and the motor got way too hot! Any (stock) motor suggestions? Thanks-Ryan

If the B4 has the stock spur gear which is 81 Tooth then it sounds like you are getting all that the motor has to offer.

How long is the straight?
Are you using a standard stick pack or is it a matched pack?
Is the class you are running in limited to Stock motors?

Post a link or picture of the track layout if possible.

I have the stock 81 spur on it, and I'm running good matched packs SMC, Brood and Intellect 3800 and 4200 matched packs. The straight is only about 70-80 feet, it's more of a tight infield type track because they also run oval there. It's clay with good traction, pink tapers and inside jobs were the tires of choice. Yeah stock motors only, though one guy did run a 30deg motor, those aren't stock are they? Chrome can, blue end bell?

The CO27 Pro is a good motor with lots of torque.
I would try dropping the spur gear down to 78 tooth and this will give you more top end RPM as well as more choices for pinions (19-22).

you could try going to stiffer brush springs, that will give you more RPM, with the trade off of less torque of course. Or you could heatsink the motor up and put a fan to it so it runs a bit cooler and then gear it up a bit higher.

So would most say that the Trinity CO27 Pro that I have is one of the best stock motors available right now? And could you post a link to a good heat sink for stock motors. Thanks

Barnes, you have one of the best out right now. Only way to get a better one is to spend the $$ and get a blueprinted one from Team Brood. Your batts should be plenty good.

What you want to do is find out what the best brushes are, and put some of those in. Then you need to align the brushhoods. Take a brush with a square face on it and run it in the motor for a bit. Loosen the screws holding the brush hoods and move them around until the wear mark on the brush is directly in the center of the brush. That makes the motor work it's best. Also have someone cut the motor for you so you are starting with a fresh and round comm.

The co27 I had when it was new seemed not to great. But the more I ran it the better it got. Think the motor just needed ran in.

You shouldn't need a heat sink for the motor. If it's running a bit hot then try putting a shotky diode on the positive and negative motor tabs. Silver line goes on the positive side. Or just drop a tooth on the pinion.

30* would not be a stock motor. 27 turns and 24* timing with a locked endbell is a stock motor. Me and Chad ran some stock offroad for awhile, and still do stock in 1/12 scale. If it's the only class available I'd run it. But if mod or 19T was an option I'd jump on that bandwagon myself.

The electric onroad forums here you can find good motor tuning info on. There's alot of stuff you can do to em. But aligning the brush hoods is the biggest.

In my b4 with a Co27 i run trinity 4499nts and purple springs. I usually gear about a 21 or 22 and am still pulling people on the straights. With this spring/brush combo you will burn out your motor sooner.

jbrow- Thanks, I'll have to look at that brush alignment, never fooled with it before.

rcdude- I have a few new sets of the 4499's, I remember they were the best in the Moster Pro stockers last season, and I remember running two different color springs for pos/neg? I don't know my spring colors/rates that well, light-heavy? Suggestions? Maybe I should have the CO27 turned and put the 4499's in and go race it.
