I only have a 540 7.5 and an old quantum comp (without fan) on a relatively flat and wide open track. I could use a bit more umph and temps are running pretty hot. I picked up the 13mm to try to decrease the heat, but ultimately assume I'll want to get a 550 can.

I see references to "little green" and others when referring to motors. I see hobbywing 120A commonly referenced, but that appears to only support up to a 540 can at 5.5t (or is this just their official recommendation and it can actually do quite a bit more). In most people's opinion, what is the "best" combo for motor/esc that people are getting that is budget friendly for those of us just picking up this truck?

Thanks.

Was an even more kick ace deal when they where $107 or so. I remember seeing the combo on sale around x-mas for $85:eek:

Take the fan and put it on the esc. Gear to around 10.6:1, that would be 14/58 or 15/62, or there abouts.

For the money it cain't be beat.

Any other suggestions? Will this be a decently noticeable jump in power in addition to a cooler running setup? Sure is hard to beat that price.

I was going to buy one of these but I'm alittle concerned when I see mass amouts of them for sale with titles like "one run, one race, etc". That kind of looks like it only took one run for people to realize there is something wrong with it or something. I can't speak first hand about the truck but all those for sale ads could lead one to second guess getting one. Whats really up with them?

they do not appreciate a professional race truck

What's really up is Losi Ten-SCTE.

1. Noob friendly ARR (Almost ready to Run), buy the car, install electronics, you're on the track in less than 30mins.

2. Easier to work/run out of the box, whereas sc10 needs A LOT of tweeking to get it dialed.

i'm not much of a track racer as there are few tracks in my neck of the woods, however this truck is a real nice vehicle. quality throughout and a nice platform to build on. there are lots of hop-ups and set-ups for it and isn't that what this hobby is all about? if you can pilot a sc truck this is a gem in my opinion....

Slotmachine 09-15-2011 12:46 PM

I just wanted to say a couple of things................
First of all I have never had a broken part on this truck....tough truck
second...You do have to do some tweeking to make it fast and yes it is fast.
I make small changes almost every run to find out what I like and dont like.

On another note....Has anyone had a problem with Trakstar. I oredred o-rings from them 9 days ago and they are still not here yet. Any comments?

every car requires tweeking even the same car from one racer to the next because nobody drives exactly the same.

I got mine stock put some rims and electronics in it and won with it from there I have actually began to do some tweaking to my liking and have installed the clutch basket but other than that if your not tweaking on it then you eithier are just ignoring the truck and adjusting your style to the truck which is slower or you just don't know out of lack of knowledge. Even pro drivers switch setups between tracks and drivers there is no one golden setup for any driver just baselines.

I have drove both and on a indoor high bite track with tight turns the SC10 was a sec faster a lap. I can see on a outdoor 1/8th scale track the losi having its advantage but I have not broke anything big on the SC10 4x4 yet and i've traction rolled into a wall a couple times, hit on the streight away and nose dove a bunch and I am completly happy with it. I have never had a belt fall off either.

The only issue I have had is temps on a 540 motor but I prefer it over a 550 anyday they are way smoother and just as fast but lighter, maybe not the bottom but that doesn't bother me because with a 6.5 it ripps.

My o-rings got to the post office near my house in AZ, then got sent back to them in CA, then got back to Arizona 2 weeks later when I finally received them

Wanted to give a report on the RCShox slipper pads. http://rcshox.com/shoxshop/catalog/p...products_id=48

I've got 2 nights on these pads and so far so good. They slip a little and grab well, so far the pads are really consistent. I'm still looking for that 'sweet spot' but I'm close. No more thinking my batteries are dying because my slipper is glazed out.:( Screaming deal for $15 bux.

I'm running all the stock slipper parts w/ 2 of the rc shox pads. I'm running the castle 3800 geared 14/58. The track I run is hi-traction and has a lot of 180* turns. Real hard on slipper pads. I'm running the slipper w/ just a touch of space between the springs.

This is w/o the basket.

dirtbag 09-15-2011 10:22 PM

new slipper pads

i agree just put the tree disc set up on both my 4x4s and i find my adjustment is also the same . one has 5.5 orion w/ r10 esc and the other runs a 4.5 550 tekin w/ r10 esc. slipper works great on both but i am noticing heavy wear on the spacer that come with clutch basket . the slot is starting to egg out

Vegatron just gave his pinionn on them, and I have been using them for 3 weeks and they work fantasticly. Not only do they stay consistent, they allow you to run them wit a good amount of slip (if you like) and still be able to get gription.:spidey:

Quick question-

During standing start, if I stab the throttle the truck will turn left (or sometimes right). Is it because the throttle setting on my esc is too aggressive? or sliper to tight? (gradual acceleration the truck goes straight)

i would think that the slipper is to tight . it is desighned to help control traction under load . i have also found alot home control in my driving with a less agressive throttle profile

Be easy on the throttle....slamming the trigger through the handle will not only cause you to waste a whole bunch of energy on wheelspin or slipper....slipping... but it also puts you right in the middle of the turn 1 carnage... Even when I qualify in the front row, I pull over and wait for everyone else to crash in the first turn...even with a bunch of seasoned SC drivers, it is inevitable...then I drive my way through the turn marshals and usually end up in 2nd or 3rd by turn 2....I'd rather have that consistency than risk getting flipped upside down and be the LAST guy that the turn marshalls flip...

I heard that, it never fails, crash in turn 1 or 2...

I won't pull over, but I have taken a less than tight line in order to not be sideways at the apex when MR. Losi comes blasting through.
