Matt Howard has the trackstar O rings. Two trackstar O rings feel just a bit smoother than one X ring. Matt Howard has noticed no leakage/seepage at all from the O rings and recommends them:nod:

Freefallmarine can't wait to check out Matt Howard's Sc10 4x4 this weekend to get idea's, to set up Freefallmarine's own truck! Freefallmarine can't wait to put this thing on the track for the first time.

Matt Howard has a Racers Edge 5400 40C pack from last years racing and just got a Turnigy Nano-tech 4850 50C pack in the mail today:D Two days after Matt Howard ordered that Nano-tech pack they announced a 5100 60C pack for just a couple bucks more:cry:

Matt Howard's SC10 4x4 will be performing backup duty this week, Matt Howard has a new 4wd SC truck he will be debuting this weekend:p

1fastpede would love to come beat that Durango :D and see Freefall's new ride but it is his little girls b-day and it will be hard for him to get out of the house this weekend.

Hey 1fastpede, ever have any problems with that tekin setup you are running. I have a regular rs and was thinking about powering my tekin 550 5.5 but a little worried. Thanks and let me know.

1Fastpede 07-27-2011 05:44 PM

no problems out of the RSPRO yet but I run two caps. not sure that the RS would do it.

Can you PM me or post a pic of your setup? Thanks.... I have a losi 4x4 that i really like but the sc10 4x4 looks so good too especially with that saddle setup. So i really in a "pickle". Let me know and thanks!!:tire:

I called Tekin last week and asked them the same question. Only difference is that I have the RS pro. He asked what car, I told him sc10 4wd. Said the it should be "OK", but if it was a Losi then no don't do it!. So I would think that the RS would not be able to handle it. Also Matt would you send me your setup for your SC10? Just curious...not that it will probably work here anyways...and all bets are off once the new building is up!

Are you using extra capacitors or any fans?

You don't mention how many watts your iron has but... if it is 50W or less you will not get the job done on the RX8. The heat will dissipate through the post to the heat sink and you will never get a good solder joint. If you need to hold the iron more than a few seconds then your iron is too weak. In fact, if you hold the iron for too long to the post you can actually desolder/damage things internally in the RX8. Buy a 80W iron, it is soooo much easier to solder with.

Also, you can solder the RX8 with a big tip, just place the iron on the side of the solder posts.

There is a video on Youtube where Randy from Tekin show how to solder the RX8. You should check it out.

I disagree. I've been soldering for years with a cheap Craftsman 45w iron. It's all about technique and preparation. A new iron tip needs to be tinned with solder, then tin the posts and wire and all should melt together without issue. I've even used my 45w iron on Turnigy 8awg wires.

That said, those Hakko setups look pretty sweet. But I wouldn't label them as "necessary".

Go to the AE site and find the Cavalieri setup, that's what Matt Howard was running before this setup was even posted.

This.

Sears and Radio Shack carriey a pretty good selection of irons, solder, and accessories, too. Been using them for over 20 years of various RC and slot cars, never let me down yet!
