Hey fellow SC10er's, I have 2 questions and wanted to see what your opinions were, thanks:
1. Does anyone on here periodically replace the stock front and rear A-arms on your truck, even if they are not broken? I know it sounds like a dumb question but this is why I ask. I have been a basher for years but recently got into track racing with my Factory Team. Needless to say, my trucks taken a good bit of abuse the past month and a half, and the front arms/wheel hubs feel a bit loose and sloppy (more then they were when it was built). So, is there a possibility that the arms may be getting a bit bent from all of the abuse, or is this not possible as it is fairly rigid plastic? Surprisingly, nothing has broken on my truck yet, evidence that AE makes SOLID trucks  2. Are there any tires you guys find work well on indoor hard packed clay tracks, that are medium-ish grip and if not watered has a light dust on top? I currently and running JConcept Barcodes (gold) and they seem to work fairly decent. The most common tires at my track are the barcodes and suburbs, but I would like to experiment with another tire as well and am not sure which on to buy. Maybe the AKA Wishbones, or the HB Beams? |

I have started replacing the front arms after 1 month of racing 6-8 races. I have found the front arms, more on my Buggy get small stress cracks and after that the right little hit will snap one. After breaking 2 arms from a little hit and not making my TQ point I now replace them |

Hey Lake, yes replacing all the worn out parts is a good idea after a while. I am going to Motorama this weekend and I replaced all the A arms and other parts that take abuse on my trucks. If you are talking about movement "back and forth" then you can use small 1mm shims to take that slop out. |

Common question I'm sure but what are people's opinion of replacing the hub carriers with aluminum ones and which ones do you like more than others?

Feel free to not respond, as there is nothing that you can say to defend your previous post.

I have also been racing r/c cars for 20+ years so I do really know what I am talking about.
------ Drove my FTSC10 sunday, and enjoyed the hell out of it. I'm working on the front end now, because my SC104x4 had more steering, and that's just plain 'wrong' . Adjusting end heights and whatnot for next Sunday. The rear of the truck was so planted, I almost feel spoiled. |

When replacing the a arms, do you guys use the AE composite type arms (part # 7446 & 7448, the ones that come stock on the FT kit) or do you use the stronger carbon fiber type arms (part # 7447 & 7449)? I am tempted to go with the carbon ones because they are stronger and I would assume hold up better. However, I also have heard that the RPM arms for instance are so rigid that they don't handle as well as the stock ones. So, this is my only fear with going the carbon fiber route. Let me know what your experiences are?
|
the carbon arms are not stronger.
They are just more rigid. So on impacts, you have less give and potentially break more parts. The RPM stuff is more flexible and can be inconsistent. Its funny, not too long ago the factory team version of the T4 included the carbon stuff. |
