You can choose any 540 sensored motor you want. I have a speed passion in both my FT and stock SC10 and they're great and cheap :)

Now, I've pretty much decided I am going to go with the MMP ESC. I have heard lotsss of good things about it, and you can't beat the price. However, I am not dead set on the motor yet. The owner at my LHS said if I am running a MMP ESC, then I should go with a CC 4600kv motor. So, that's one option. The other motor I am interested in is the LRP X-12 (7.5t). The reviews on it seem very good.

One other quick question... does anyone have any experience with the CC Sidewinder SCT ESC, or the Sidewinder SV2 ESC on a SC10? I see they have some decent reviews and are a great price, but I don't know what they'd be like on an SC10. I am not an expert racer or anything, but I do like my truck to be able to compete :) Thanks for the help!

What is common for motors at your track?

The main benefits of the MMP over other castle 1/10 ESCs is the sensored option and CHEAT mode. I would recommend getting a motor that is sensored.

Personally, I like motors that have replaceable stators. That way, if I find I don't like say the 8.5 turn, i can just change the stator and have a new motor.

If you go with a Castle MMP, make sure you read up on the Mamba Max Pro thread about any radio issues and servo issues.

I run the MMP in 1/8 buggy and 1/10 SCT and its great.

If you are going to go the Castle direction I would strongly suggest that you stick with the MMP. The Sidewinder line isn't terrible but they are strictly sensorless. The MMP will run either and the sensored motors are just simply smoother than sensorless. I've always thought that you should buy as much motor as you ever think you will need. You can always turn the overall power down. I've got the 5700kV turned down to 75% on our indoor track.

Upgrading my SC10 rtr with FT options and just curious what setup you guys have with the FT shocks? What springs f and r, what pistons f and r , also what wt oil f and r? Track is medium sized with alot of small to medium jumps and somewhat slick and with real no groove. I also want to switch my steering servo from a hitec mg645 to my new jr z9100s and I know it's way faster but is it to fast for SCT 2wd (.06 sec./190 oz)? Thanks for any info/help!

I have red front and ae green on the shocks
Some at the track I race at use gold front or gold rear.
Pistons I am using he stock #3 front and #2 rear.
Oil weight I am running 35 front 30 rear. I have 25,27.5,30,32.5 and 35wt oil for adjusting

from what I can tell on the setup sheets seems its common to run red front springs and green to silver springs and anything inbetween.

Pistons I believe #1 in the rear is common, don't recall the front but its either #2 or #3.

I basically setup my vehicle by going off of the setup sheets and using what was common at least for springs and pistons, as well as limiters since the limiters can be more of a pain to change.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's #2081, right? They don't show up on JConcept's website, but I found them on another vendor's site.

Correct. 2091 is for the B4.1 or B44.1 rear

If you are going Castle. Get the MMP. depending on what servo you run You may need a glitch buster or CC's BEC. The MMP's internal BEC is crap.
I run a Savox servo and it will cause a brownout within 2 turns.

The sidewinder is a ok ESC has no fan stock. can not run a sensored motor,

I am not sure what class you are going to be racing in so I can 100% give a opinion on what motor to run
Lots I am seeing are running a 17.5T with boost or a 13.5T

Locally. We have 13.5T is for the Prolite class and anything larger is a Pro 2 class.

If you are somewhat new to this I would get a 13.5T
the Castle 3800kv or 4600kv is A lot of motor for the SC10. it's also not sensored so it has a little cogging to it. The sensored will be much smoother.

Not if they are fast.

Seriously, the Proline beadlocks are okay if you are willing to tolerate the fact they are costly, only work with Proline tires (because they are designed around Proline tire beads), are heavy on part of the truck you absolutely don't want the weight, and don't hold the foams from moving around very well.

I don't mind gluing tires. It's a pain, but I don't mind it because it's faster.

Hey guys, I just picked up used rtr and started to service the diff when I discovered it came with grease. Is this what most people are using or should I go back with oil and if so what weight. Thanks for the help.

I use grease. Never tried oil. Maybe someone who has used both can chime in.

Edit: I decided.

Thanks!

It works, but I prefer diff fluid. I bounce up to about 15k depending on the track I'm running.

Yeah I also bought mine as a RTR and one of the first things I did was get rid of grease and put diff oil in the diff. I tested the truck at my track with grease first and it was harder to drive off corners without spinning and my times were slower but when I used 5000wt diff oil it made it much easier to drive off and thru corners and lowered my times by 1 sec. to 2 sec. a lap. If you want more of a posi trac feel then go thicker like 10000wt or if your track is loose with tight corners and you want to rotate thru corners better go thinner like 3000wt but I like it in the middle 5000wt. Good Luck!
