SC10 Thread
#8581
No you don't shim the Diff, it will work perfect if you build it right, There is a thread on here about how to build it. I will find it and send you a link. I would not put the RPM arms on there. I have had a few FT SC10's and have not broken a arm yet. The RPM stuff is very durable but for racing purposes it is not needed... I have RPM bumpers on my trucks now, it makes the front end pretty durable.
The stock tires that come with the FT truck are pretty good, at least the rears are. They are JConcept Sub Cultures I believe. I run HB Beams front and rear and they are the best that I have found IMO.
I also have 12mm Hexes all the way around. I use the proline set up because that was all that was available at the time. I know you can get the RS setup on ebay or some other sites for cheaper. The benefit of this is strength factor on the rear. The pin rears on the stock FT tend to strip. Also if you put these on the front and rear you can interchange your tires. The fronts and rear will run the same rims. So this will give you more options with tires.
I run a VIPER VTX10 ESC, I personally love it. I run a few different motors and haven't had a bad one. Reedy Sonic 17.5, Viper VST 17.5, Icon 17.5, etc... I know the Tekin RS and RS pro are great ESC's. I would personally stay away from Castle and Novak. But again just my opinion.
Make sure you get a good servo, these trucks turn on a dime so take advantage of it.
Sorry for writing so much, hope it helps

So, yeah, maybe I will leave the RPM's off for now and see how the FT arms handle. A lot of people have said the RPM's aren't so hot for racing. If you don't mind me asking, what wheels are you using? Stocks, beadlocks? Also, what is a good servo you would recommend?
And also, if you could send me a link to that post you were talking about, that would be GREAT! Hope to hear back from you.

watch these

RPM arms are good for bashing. Most people do not need them for racing. You hit less crap. well try to anyways.
Rims. I use the Stock RS rims. and DE racing rims.
I just tested out a set of Jconcept hazard rims with the 3mm offset. on my 4x4 and 2wd and they worked great..
servo
Can't go wrong with a Savox 1258TG
I know the questions above were not toward me but the more info the greater in the long run.

So, I checked out those videos, and of course... bookmarked them for once I receive my kit in the mail. I think they will come in handy greatly.
One question, what DE rims specifically will work on the FT SC10, and will I need adapters? Also, the FT comes with subcultures for the rear, and I would like to also install them on the fronts. Do you know what size I need to get? I was looking on tower hobbies, but they had a few different sizes and I wasn't sure which ones I'd need. Thanks!

You guys are awesome! I just came from posting on the Traxxas forums (for my Mini Erevo) and you guys on here are wayyyy more helpful then on there!

the tires you are looking for are these.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAACX&P=0
You need any SCT 3.0"x2.2" tire
Your part numbers for the rims are
Front - 3317
Rear - 3318
those are non-hex rims. for the SC10 FT kit
If you wanted to upgrade to Hex.
I would run the Jconcpets rear 12mm hex
I would also do the stock RS front conversion instead of the pro line (I like to stay as factory as I can with stuff)
Need RS steering blocks
Hex kit from AE or anyone else that uses them. I use the plastic AE ones. I found the others add offset to the front.
RS Hex axles
ball stud lock nuts.
use the same bearings from your wheels in the hubs.
this is just in case you wanted to upgrade.
If you do. don't mount your tires on the FT rims. lol. might as well get Hex rims and mount them on there. lol

You can do some of this research by checking online stores like Amainhobbies.com. Go to Cars and Trucks, then Parts, choose Associated, then SC10 and there are hundreds of parts and accessories for this truck. You won't have to ask which one fits because you will be looking at all the stuff you can put on this specific vehicle. I love doing this and I waste lots of time window shopping this way.
Good luck and have fun!

You need to get the rims for the FT kit. rear pin style (Non-Hex) front non-hex. the bearings go into the rims.

Yeah, I was thinking that exact thing when I couldn't find that info on tower hobbies... so I went to thetoyz, but they didn't have more then one or two rims listed under the SC10. I will try amain, they must have a better amount of stuff listed under the sc10

there a different height and changes the bump steer
EFFECTS OF BUMP STEER
More bump steer
(wheels more parallel under
compression)
Increases steering in mid-corner
Steering may become twitchy
Easier to control on smooth tracks
Less bump steer
(wheels open more under
compression)
Decreases steering in mid-corner
Smoother steering response
Better on rough or bumpy tracks

I think I am going to put the 12mm hex adapters on my FT SC10, because I am interested in using the Pro-Line Split Six wheels. I have always been a fan of the beadlocks and would like to get them again. Do you know what the part number is on the 12mm hex adapters that fit on the FT SC10?
Front part #'s I am using Factory RS parts. I like keeping things factory if I can
Steering block - #9880
axle - # 9881
Ball stud is long silver #6277
Locking nut for ball stud # 4449
12mm Hex #9883
The bearing # is 3977. You can use the ones in the rims. Same bearing, to save a few bucks,
The Hex kit comes with front/rear hex. You can just use them. I am not a fan of the rear plastic hex though.
You can also run different locking front hex. I don't. It makes the front to wide for me. I have the plastic ones with a small hole drilled in it to and a pinion set screw in it. They like to come off with the rims. No real big deal though
Hope that helps

Pretty much every rim on this page

The DE Racing 4x4 rims are the ones you want to use if you have HEX.

if I recall correctly its the bulkhead they screw into that is plastic correct?
If so, put some shoe goo on the screws and thread it in.
You should be able to back them out when you need to, but they will hold.
In a pinch, I have used pieces of thin paper and screwed those in for other screw hole issues. Not sure if that would work out though since the screws are so small.
