I Just finished building my diff. It was tight and crunchy like quite a number of people have posted. I took it back apart and found the same thing at least one person posted. One of the diff cross shafts had not had the recess machined in it. A couple minutes with the dremel to match the two shafts and my diff is as smooth as silk.

Thanks for the setup help, and the extra weight, last night! When I setout for my only practice session I only had three laps in and I felt like I should me in rookie. After your help and a few more laps I was able finally dial it more and get pretty good On my buggy I ran a 12 5:04 and my SC10 I got down to 12 5:14. Now that is what I call progress!! Thanks again and please keep the setup tips coming. I don't get much time for practice so any help I can't get the better. |

I got all these tips just by askin around and checkin in here with the build tips from the AE dudes. Kinda like how you got dialed. Lots of good help out there. |

What is the REAL explanation of the caster blocks? Which adds more steering INTO and less OUT OF corners, 25 or 30 degrees? I was told the 30 degree caster block adds more steering into and less out of corners. Then a very reliable source said it was the complete opposite. He explained that back in the day when AE wanted more steering that they were using 20 degree caster blocks then with newer geometry less caster was necessary and 30 degrees was an option to take away steering. built mine today. Easy build.
I am having the steering rack problem, so I'm gonna have to do some dremel work. Also my diff seems loose, like if I turn one back wheel, the other barely moves, and if it does, it goes in the same direction. Quick fix for this? |
Wow hate to hear all the problems. Just finished mine with no glitches but I've been putting Associated kits together for way too long! No steering problems and no diff problems. I'm also using the black grease like they say to do! I would like to hear alittle more about the inserts though. I'm mounting the J Concepts Goosebumps instead of the factory tires and was going to put the AKA foams in but this truck will be run on outside tracks only. They may be too firm but I'm afraid the stock are too soft. Anyone heard anything?

Anyone notice that there outer axle hubs rub the rear control arm when the suspension is hanging? Or did I do something wrong?

I would think, from a design stand point, that you want at least one shaft to be solid. It must be the thickness of the solid shaft that is creating a gap... |
