Default 11.1V lipo enough for an SC8e?

I'm seriously thinking about going with the SC8e. Had an SC10 on order but cancelled when I heard they were coming out.

What kind of performance could I expect using a single 11.1V lipo vs. using two 7.4V packs like they show in the pics? I plan to race. I don't need to have the fastest truck there, but want to be competitive. Would the single pack be a realistic option and if so, what motor / ESC would be a good match?

Thanks

How do you think the sc8e will compete up against an e-slayer. I am converting an e-slayer with a center diff, revo platinum shocks, sway bar kit, and 8th scale buggy tires. Do you think my e-slayer could keep up with the new sc8e

The lower CG and longer chassis of the SC8e will help it out a lot for handling. I would be willing to bet that given equal power systems and equal drivers, the SC8e will run rings around a Slayer.

My Kyosho GT was pretty fast on 3s but for offroad I would run a 4s or even a 5s with less capacity and less KV. Higher voltage systems run cooler and use energy more efficiently,

My SC10 will be here tomorrow and I hope to pick up a SC8e next month.

Been waiting for these types of trucks since the mid 80s.

Yeah, there have been attempts, but not until the Slash and SC10 did they get the dimensions right.

It depends on your track. A 3S LiPo with a LRP TC Spec ESC and Novak motor as shown in some photos is more than enough for a small to medium sized track.

As with any vehicle, many times you need to go slower to go faster. In 1/8 electric, most of the cars are set up to go way to fast which results in slower lap times.

This may not be the best set up for, but is something to consider.

I thought along these lines too, but running a 1/8th on a 3S is a little tricky. Several people have tried and ended up puffing a battery or two in the process. If you are going to do it, buy a good quality 3S with a 30C or higher rating or at least 100a continuous rating. The initial setup that I ran in my RC8 was a 3S, 5000 maxamps with a Feigao 10L motor. This was nearly the limit of the battery and is would regularly come off the track at 130+ which is not too far from the maximum suggested of 140F.

The easier solution is to use 4S and back off on the motor or gearing. Go with a 2000kv or less motor for a starting point on 4S.
