I'm running the 1550 truggy motor on 5S 5000mah lipo. I'm only getting 15 minute run times. Is this what should be expected run time with this set up? I would think it should be more. Any suggestions to help get more run time?

Runtime is a hard thing to judge. Driving style, race conditions, track layout and size, car weight, etc all have an effect on runtime.

What truggy? How much does it weigh with battery? Track size? Gearing? etc.

Some quick vid of Ty "Air time" Campbell going huge over the rear jump at the RC Pro Series race in Boise, Idaho. There are TWO full sized cars under that landing ramp! LOL

Ok got a question, Brand new RX8/T8 2050, 2nd run middle of a 6 minute quail I loose throttle. The LED's are switching between 1(center led) and all led's. Motor temp was 152 and speedo was 108. I noticed that the fan had broken a blade and was wedged, After it sat for a few and I removed the broken fan all seemed to work. Would that cause it to shut down ???

All led's list is a thermal shutdown. Unless they're flashing all led's than that is a loss of radio signal.

The jammed fan shouldn't have caused it unless it managed to short out, which is entirely possible.

IF it's ok without the fan run it.

Upgrade to a Turnigy 5800 5s.

Track conditions have a huge effect on power usage.

On a grippy track my 4s 1900kv buggy used 3000mah in 15min. Same track only dusty I dumped a Turnigy 4500 hardcase in 12min. All our races are 15min when mixed with nitro.

Dusty conditions meant I carried less speed and spun the tires accelerating more. When it was grippy, even though I could grab more throttle I was allready at speed so I accelerated less.

RX8 never got warmer than 3 leds in 98 degree track temps.

I run the same battery size and motor in my truggy (XT8 geared for 38mph weighs just about exactly 10lbs fully loaded with a battery for the main) and get about the same run time. I can actually hit the LVC in under 15min if the traction is high and can really lay down power. I actually went to a 5s 5800 pack for the mains just to be on the safe side.

Randy,

I'm running a Losi 8T 2.0. I'm running 15/45 gearing. The track I run on has a 200 ft front straight . It's not super high speed but it does roll pretty good. I use about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle most of the track. I'm typically pretty smooth. I'm not sure how much it weighs but I'm running a 5S lipo.

Thanks Zero for the suggestion. Thats what I was looking at getting .

jhautz your info was what I was looking for. Seeing you are running the same combo tells me I'm pretty much in the ball park for run time. I probably will buy a couple of 5800 mah batteries for the main. Our track runs 30 minute mains so i have to do a battery swap for it. My pit guy gets it done in about 40 seconds.

Did you run a fan on the RX8? How are people getting such low temps on 4s? I ran mine today, it was 95 out and i was at 5 led without the fan. even with the fan i am in the 3-4led range when the track temp is in the 70's. running the 1900kv geared 21/50.

I do use the fan. I use three layers of servo tape to stick my ESc to a Losi battery tray. Then run a ziptie under the fan, through the heatsink, so the case deon't get squished onto the fan.

5s 1550 setup on a large track like that may be pushing it for 15 minutes. Who's 5s is it? What's the rating?

Your gearing sounds fine, how's the esc set?

Truggies are heavy and will burn more power.

Guys if you're not over 5 lights with 4s and no fan, don't sweat it. You're no where near thermal yet.
