This sounds like a blast. I have five Losi XXCR Brian Kinwald cars. Can someone give me the date this car originated to see if it qualifies as pre 1994? I would love attend but must be certain of the car year first.

so tamiya re-release kits are definitely allowed? i have a frog kit i've been meaning to build....

is there any good 4wd tamiya re-releases that are out i could run? Hotshot perhaps? which is more performance oriented.. he hotshot or thundershot

Any suggestions? i'm 29, and i never had any tamiya kits in the 80s, but i remember going to the hobby store almost every week and looking at the kits. Now that I can afford fun toys... this race sounds great!

Any one better then the other in being ready to race is stock kit form? I'll be building, racing this race, and them prob puting them on the shelf for a few years till my boy is old enough to play around with them.

nutz4rcyktwm, I think the "cr" version of the XX came out later. But I am waiting for the list myself, curious to know which version of the RC10 will be allowed because I think the "Kinwald" Worlds Edition of the RC10 came out in '94.

Will we be allowed to adjust axles to fit newer tire styles? I don't even know if 2.0 tires are still made are they??

I'm pretty sure that the XX CR is newer than '94, the original XX came out just about then. I think '94, certainly no earlier than late '93. If I remember correctly it was ran in prototype form at the '93 Worlds.

EDIT: I just discovered RC10talk.com, awesome vintage site. The 2.2 wheel controversy was at the ’89 worlds, and they were Yokomo, not ProLine like I thought

But I believe the Losi step pin tire is still a 2.0.

XX CR BK-I think you guys are correct based on some reading I have been doing. It is too new. I am not certain I think a new release of an old car is "vintage". Even the molding process is better now than then as well as the quality of the plastic, composite, and graphite. Not for me to decide though.

Funny, that you just posted that I was playing on line on the Car Action web site they have a listing of past articles - it's by no mean an exact date - I am only stating this based on what they showed on covers (because you have to sign up for their website to see the articles) - early 1994 (Feb. 1994 issue) they review the Losi XX car. In late 1996 they review the Losi XX 'cr' version (Nov. 1996). I went to the Winter Champs in FL in '96 and had some friends that ran for Losi and they were tested the 'cr' parts - if I remember right - So Cal raceway or somewhere in CA was taking the original pivots and re-drilling them and filling the the exess with CA glue and baking powder. The XX BK edition is on the cover in April of 1999, but I thought it came out in '98 to celebrate Brian's 97 Worlds win.

It would be easier if Losi had a history on their website like Associated does.

Maybe some one who has the Car Action membership can look at the articles. Or someone else can shed some light.

Hey guys sorry i've been busy lately and couldn't answer.

The XXCR came out after 94 while the XX was released in 94. As for the RC10's all of them are allowed as by 94 they were heading for the B2.

This was why I picked 94 as a baseline... if you look at the history of r/c in general 1994 was a big pivot in not only the cars (almost everyone revamped they're cars within the window of 94-95) but in technology. 94 was when we started seeing composite chassis', more modern transmissions, and suspensions became more highly developed as well. Electronics, motors and pretty much the better part of the industry, IMO, went through a very big change around that time so I view it as the dividing line (at least for now) between the modern era and that 80s/90s era that we call "vintage".

The Tamiya rereleases are definitely allowed 2wd AND 4wd as are cars that are pre 94 that have been modded to accomodate newer tires,etc and things to keep them running. The point of this is to see old cars live again and have fun more then it is to set track record if you know what i mean. There's no fun in going to a classic car show only to see 68 camaro bodies mounted on 2006 Malibu frames if that makes sense.

very simple to tell the 2 apart, just look at the rear suspension, the CR bolts to the rear T plate, the standard is all one piece.
