I posted this in the Pegasus thread, but I'd like to get more people into this...
OK...here goes...
I'm going to do a 17.5 gear adapter...or at least I'm very seriously considering it. I'm going to the machine shop tomorrow...he's on board and he makes similar parts already...so it'll be a done deal.
I should be able to do one part that would work for Losi, AE and Kyosho buggies and allow you to bolt on smaller spurs. I'm thinking that if I can keep it under $15 delivered...total price, I should be able to make it worth doing and sell plenty.
It would be similar to what Joel posted above, only it would have an appropriate hole (just like a slipper plate)...and maybe have a set screw hole as well.
Anyone think they would be interested? I'm going to have to make a hundred or two at least...but I think they would sell like hotcakes. From what I've gathered, the slipper is not really an issue in stock..and it should be pretty light as well.

I use one of these on my T4. Kimbrough makes spurs down to a 69t. Thats about the smallest I could find... Good luck.

I knew that someone made one before...mine is going to have the correct hole with flat sides, so you can just put the slipper back on. Set screws would jack up the top shaft...especially on the Kyosho, that has an aluminum top shaft. It looks like that one has a round hole, right? No flats?
Dave...I've been calling up the few pros and experts I have in my book to hit them up about the need for a slipper in stock...the overwhelming consensus is that it's not "mission critical".

The problem is that the slippers are too large in diameter to allow for a small spur. It would take a lot of work to get a small diameter slipper to work and it would no doubt involve a unique spur.
One of the side benefits of gearing a 17.5 to the moon is it softens the torque a bunch. It has much less multiplication with that tall of a gear. Heck...one way you can tell you're actually making it work is that they actually get warm. My 13.5s barely get warm.

I haven't run it. But a 37 tooth pinion fits with a 78 spur in my XXX-T MF. That gives a FDR of 5.12. Well under Novaks recommended 7.5. So Ill have plenty of room to play with the gearing once OC RC Raceway open in a few weeks.

It's curious that you guys seem to think that a slipper is a big deal, but the FAST guys (the ones that get paid) don't seem to think it's all that big of a deal. The way I see it...you can wait for the 17.5/Lipo version of the B5, a complete aftermarket slipper and custom spurs...who knows when that's gonna happen...or just get on with it and go racing.

yeah but how i figure it...
we arent the ones getting paid to do it for a reason :P Im definately willing to try 17.5 and ur spur adapter idea and im sure a lightweight aluminum spur and lightweight slipper plates can be machined.
funny thing... i actually know a guy who is a manager at a plastic injection molding company...
