-Dirt Web fronts have more initial turn-in and then release the corner.
-Ellipse fronts have less initial turn-in, but have more middle and exit steering.
I think Ellipses can make a car oversteer and over power the rear making the car feel loose on-power exiting corners; this is when Dirt Webs are better. If the car feels tight on-power and you need more steering to finish the corner, then Ellipses are favored.

Our track has some good clay but it is a covered outdoor track. Since we are still in winter here the track is generally frozen (-10*C !!) and lower traction until it warms up outside. We have been using space bars as a step before going to dirt webs giving the rear a chance to grab any traction possible! As our traction comes up along with the outdoor temperatures sounds like we'll move to dirt webs and ellipses. Thanks !

It's been a long time since I've used Space Bar fronts, but I have some good experience with Dirt Web and Ellipses.

I have very little dirt experience even having raced 10th scale for more than 30 years as we don't have any 10th dirt tracks (at all) in the UK but I might be venturing to Europe for a few races on dirt.
I like to understand the "why" things work.

Can you please explain why these tyres behave the way they do?

The Ellipses are much bigger (wider/rounder carcass) and I think the contact patch is more consistent throughout the steering/caster/camber/suspension and the bigger tire has slightly slower steering speeds. I actually prefer bigger tires the higher the bite is as it makes the car easier to drive; especially on slicks.
I'm sure you could really fine tune the steering/camber geometry to maximize each tire, but most racers don't have the time or knowledge to do this. It's just easier to try each tire back to back and go with the one that is best for the given conditions. If it's spec tire racing, then tuning the front end geometry is huge!

The pro guys feel like the P2 is best for outdoor/indoor loose dirt conditions or lower bite turf. The F2 is best for indoor/outdoor med/high bite dirt or med bite carpet/turf. Some guys like the S2 for high bite carpet or clay.

In regards to the front tire discussion and my personal experiences; I think the tire size/shape is key here. The narrower and slightly flatter Dirt Web has more initial turn-in based off the contact patch at neutral and loses some of that contact patch throughout the steering/caster/camber/suspension travel (of course this could be fine tuned for optimum performance for each tire type). I also think that maybe even being a little smaller/lighter could give quicker steering speeds.

I honestly don't notice much difference and just run what looks cool or fresh...
