The plastic gear seems to hold up fine for me. I had a kevlar in there, but it was horribly loud, sounded like a bad gear mesh almost. Josh Numan told me to go with the plastic gear, and the car was instantly quiet. It holds up to my 6 turn D6, so I dont think anyone else will have problems as long as the mesh is correct.

I only chewed a couple of blue gears but the more I think about it maybe I had the mesh set wrong. I never tried the kevlar gear so I can't give any helpful info on it. Randman is the man for that.

I don't think that you will have to worry about the performance differences being that much of an issue between the two.

There is no performance difference between the plastic and kevlar, and although I havent weighed them, the plastic actually feels a hair lighter.

There's nothing better then hearing the roar of a mod motor on the straight, cant drain that sound out with a loud gear...

I've been using the kevlar gear and it has never been loud... the only sound I hear out of my car (unless I'm mistaken) is the sound of the motor and belt whurling up at top speed.

About 1 in 10 aren't loud, so you got a lucky one. The blue gears are all quiet though, so I'll stick with them.

I have been using a Kevlar gear that I drilled out on a homemade jig. I use a very light coating of teflon based gear solution that I got from a bike shop. I cannot hear my gears at all, and my car seems to be a little faster since trying this.

Funny you should say that. I've thought about using some of the teflon based gear lube at the mtn. bike shops before. They make dry lubes that are slick as hell and quiet down the geartrain of a mountain bike real quick but they don't attract as much dirt as a liquid based lube would. Anyone ever had negetive results from trying this?

I use the lube each time I run the motor, and I only run a motor once so I essetially relube before each run. Over time the dry teflon accumulates on the bottom of the drivetrain tunnel. I take the bottom plate off and clean it about once per month. Otherwise, I have not had any problems.

any word on those bk bones yet?? and what do you ppl think about the black belt system, i think ill have to go back a few pages since i was out of town and missed like 8 pages of this form.and if anyone know a lhs or a online store withe the blk belt kit in that would be great.

I know Randy made some of his own BK Bones and they seem to work pretty well. I wasn't too impressed with the black belt at first but this week I rebuilt my entire drivetrain. I didn't realize the bearings that I had pulled all the seats out of and worked on were in the other car I sold last month and was wondering why the drivetrain felt a little tight even with the black belt. Worked on the bearings this week and rebuilt the car from the ground up. It's more free than It's ever been. I can really feel the difference the black belt makes now.
