Thanks Rodney
I have a hard time believing any of the bodies would have an advantage at the speeds being run... however in my personal experience I run .2 - .3 sec per lap faster with my Mustang vs. Cuda. I don't know why but its worked out that way. Camaros are ruling at our track so far but they generally have the best drivers running them also so can't say there is a body advantage.

My friend with the mustang also has a cuda body. And he said the cuda body felt more top heavy compared to the mustang.

Default Motor

Apex/Doug/All,Any chance anyone has done any testing with the 21.5 motors as of yet?? Will the rule be ammended for the 21.5 per testing,or will the 17.5 be "the" class brushless set-up? Thanks guys.

17.5 is the motor we're going with on 4-cells and has proven to be "just fast enough" for spec racing. The concern is that the 21.5 on essentially 6 cells at 4-cell weight will be too fast. Not only that but the 21.5 has been too hard to actually get to test with to this point. As soon as I can get my hands on one, I will test with it, but I'm not expecting much.

Ideally, a 23.5 brushless on Lipo might be the answer, but that's not an option right now. And if it was, gearing might be a horrible issue with many TCs out there.

Whelp, off to the track. We're running T/A today with no brushless FDR limits to see if we can tweak the motors a bit closer. Stay tuned!

I ran a 21.5 with lipo yesterday. I think you might be able to gear it to a 5.0 and still be even with the other motor combo's. I started the day geared around 5.6 and ended up at a 5.2. Everytime I geared up I thought it would be too fast but that wasn't the case. The 4 cell 17.5's were still a tick faster top end than the 21.5 and the good brushed setups are a tick faster than both. I had a little more out of the corners than the 17.5's but not much. It's only one day but I have run a 14.9 on our track with 4 cell 17.5 (FDR 4.033) and ran a fast lap of 15.03 with the 21.5. I was only trying to gear the motor to be equal I wasn't trying to gear to its potential. I'm going to keep trying it and another guy is going to try one also so we'll see if we consistently see the same results.

padailey,Thanks for the update,I'll be off to one of the local tracks this weekend,to see if I can spark some interest in the TA class. There are a few guys I know that will be there, and I'll direct them to this thread and the TA website. Most of them are running brushless/Li-po already,so if a motor/body change is all thats needed to run, well we'll see how it goes.I'll keep ya's posted.Good info on the 21.5

Also..FYI if you or anyone else needs extra HPI Vintage Body Decal sheets (for extra sponsors etc) let me know at [email protected].

I did most of the 1/10 scale vintage body decals (except the Camaro...)

We also have this extra sheet that we've included with some of the Nitro 3 kits, it has extra sponsors and race numbers:

Thanks,

Just a small note about a minor rules change... bearings in 27T stock motors are no longer legal (not that anyone used or needed them in Trans Am). It was a bit of a placebo to keep brushed motor racers from panicking about the introduction of the brushless motors to the class, and we've found that not only are bearings not necessary, but the brushed motors are still faster overall.
