Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

Has anyone tried running the rear shocks in the front of the tower, for instance with the X-factory tower? I notice the rb6.6 and AE b6d users are doing this for clay.

I'd like to give this a try on the 22 3.0, but would like to know what it would do and if anyone has any experience doing this.

I had tried it way back when on my dex210 (v1) and found the car rotated slightly better. (Don't get me started on this car).

No idea if that would carry over here though.
I haven't flipped them myself.

i moved my shocks prior to the AE race, and got an XFactory kit while at the race. the kit is the way to go,

i felt that my car carried more corner speed, had more onpower steering, it rotated more...really like it...especially in stock..

$329.99, sames as the original price of the 22 3.0.
Frank,
Judging from this post the lightweight diff parts only work with the new bones and that they won't work in a 22t?

For the original laydown (+3.5) conversion, should the rear pivots be changed to HRC as recommended for the front?

Correct, the diff will not work for the 22T and SCT at this time.

I wouldn't change to HRC in the rear.

Hey frank. Have you guys put any thought into doing a new rear shock tower and arms to support moving the shocks forward? (I was thinking about something similar to the jconcepts rear bulkhead/tower for the c4.2) Also having a mount on the new tower for a rear rollbar would be a welcomed addition. Only one clay indoor track remains up here in the northwest, the rest have gone to carpet/turf

Sure people are running them. I am on my carpet buggy. I also have the dirt laydown for next time I hit the clay. The dirt laydown transmission is meant to use the stock hubs. It all has to do with what ride height you are intending to run.

Just switched brands to a 22 3.0. Are there any hex conversions out there that will let me run the wheels I have instead of trying to unglue everything and put on tlr wheels?

Thanks

What Car did you have before the Losi? Any Rear wheel should fit fine. Fronts are a little different story most 12mm wheels will bolt up but your offset will be different. Losi fronts have zero offset. Associated wheels for example make the car about 9mm to wide. Im not sure about the other brands.

almost about to pull the trigger and pre-order the Spec Racer...Im new one track that is clay and one that is carpet, is the option laydown transmission necessary on carpet or will the box setup be competitive on carpet? This is my first 2wd buggy for racing. Thanks.

The box set-up will work great on carpet, then down the road after you hone your skills you may want to try a laydown set-up.

so being that this will be my first actual racing kit buggy, should I just save money and go for the 22 3.0 vs the Spec-R? Since I am new to racing, im not sure the weight savings would give me that much of an advantage because im still trying to learn how to drive fast! LOL
