Sorry, I was bored... EAT THIS!
Tamiya TA04 is still a very pretty car
I've since changed to the CF chassis, maybe I'll post some pics when I have time to take them.

Yup, I considered changing to SSG but I'd have to get all the short shock springs since the towers are lower... besides, the black CF looks cleaner after a race day
Yep, from where I come from, a couple of consistently top drivers actually still race this and trash all the latest cars.

The weight now is around 1520-30 with everything in (body, batt, electronics). Its still a pig but that doesn't affect its performance too much. I haven't changed to full titanium screws yet.
Also I'm using some parts which may weigh more than stock as shown in the attached pic (tamiya alu rear uprights, alu shock spring retainers etc). Some stuff like front one-way and also the alu front diff pulley are also used. I prob can bring it to below 1500 if I removed some of those stuff but then, this is my Blu Project
I'll prob reweigh the car when I get the chance, coz I have recently installed the CF bottom chassis in place of the tub.

I already have it
These pics were taken before i finally found one still selling online...
I still have 2 or 3 things to really finish this project but the car can prob do without them if I really can't locate those parts...
1) blue alu steering assembly
2) blue hex hubs
3) blue shock spring retainers

Question: I hear from some people that the TA-04 is outdated....Why?
It uses the same suspension geometry as the 415 and looks almost identical to a 414 (Except for the pack across)
Why would this car be any less of a car than a 414 or an Evo3?

It is however still very competitive, though some people may say the car is "over-engineered".
Anyway if there are rumours going around now about a TA05 which would coincide with the 415's release, but I am not about to get rid of my TA04 yet, coz it has won me more silverware than my Pro4 (the pro4 has only seen one race so far but it netted me a podium finish, so its not pushover either).

I'm taking mine out for its first race this weekend... can't see any reason why it wouldn't be competitive; it's reasonably light compared to my TC3, seems durable, and has a smooth drivetrain. If anything, it could probably be a little lighter, but it's still pretty fast out of the box.

Its great to see that there are a lot of guys still using the 04!!!
FlyingGT: my suggestion, if you are getting one. Buy the TAO4-TRF it is value for money. But for it to be in great shape(personally), buy the Lightweight Tub chassis and another upper deck, yes USE 2!!! Your car will be stiff and tweak free!
This will save you money, I started out with a TAO4-R now it looks like a TRF with all the parts i got for it, even the flourine coated shocks, all I left out is the TUB chassis and I use 2 upper decks plus the SQUARE knuckle arms and rear Hub, My 04 weights 1524!! Ready to race, thats with all the aluminum goodies!!!
With regards to the belt, all O4 series have their blt too tight a first but loosens up after a few runs, personaly I do away with belt tensioner.
Hope this thread will always be alive!!!
Peace and Happy Racing!

Thanx .....
Actually i already own a TA04 R-Tuned chassis ....
with a few hop up parts already in the car ...!!
But yeah i was lookin at the TRF but found that it could only take stick packs ........... so the R-tuned, with the lightweight molded tub...had slots for side x side packs......... was a better option ...
Also .... has anyone had problems of stripping the centre plastic pulley ??
will going to the aluminium parts help stop the stripping??
