The 414M is not leagal for TCS races which are Tamiya only, you however can race the car in most local club races, or Roar/Ifmar races.

The last I heard was because it wasn't a production run car (whatever that means) if you attend a ROAR national event you would have to run in Modified. I think the same problem happened to the 414X car. Maybe because they were a limited production run. Somebody correct me if I am wrong but on a club level they are fine.

At a ROAR event you can run stock or mod. ROAR has nothing to do with Tamiya. TCS races, the 414M is not legal. At ROAR sanctioned races it's just another 4WD touring car; run what ever class you want. Although the car might be under weight.

I was recommended a 120/38-40 gearing for the stock motor. The TA04R includes the 120t already, so you just need the pinions.

Yes, you can use other brand 64pitch pinions. I used to use RRP pinions, but I never liked them because the grub screw strips too easily (not to mention you need an exact 1.5mm Hex Driver, such as the MIP one, the L Shaped driver the kit supplies you with won't work well with RRP Pinions.) I now use Tamiya ones.

Another thread mentioned using HPI Pinions. OTOH I use Kawada 64p duraluminum pinions. Works great. But I put loctite on my grub screw so it next to never comes out...

Default High Torque or High Rev?

Found a *bit* more info on the Type T & Rs, as well as prices. Both seem to be priced the same @ 2,600yen. According to this URL

http://www.tamiya.dk/rc/ta04_hopup.html

Type T

Type R

The Type T is meant for high torque usage, whereas the Type R is for high revolution (high speed?) usage. What's preferably for a technical circuit?

TFR the pinions might not be a lot. $21 for Tamiya (a pair) and $6-8 for others so it'll be $12-16 but if it's $6 for a pinion then i'll get those one.

for technical track get the Type T. just like other stock motor, technical is P2K on wide open traks are Type R same thing like the GM3
