I run a 17.5 with 0 timing, and a hobbywing esc, with timing on normal, with tamiya rubber and rims, and i run 48P 70t spur with 18t pinion. My motor does bugger all work as it comes off after a race and it's not even hotter than room temp, same as my esc. My car isn't the fastest on the track but it's a good speed for me and my useless driving skills... oh i run 25c stick pack lipo also.

Don't know if this has already been mentioned but has anyone used AW grease on the diff with success?
If anyone has used it what are the results compared to using the normal diff grease as supplied in the kit?

i am pretty sure the AW grease is used for the thrust bearings on the 103/109's it is not used on the actual balls/plates.

I only have experience (not in a race setting) with Tamiya rubber. Kit fronts (51399) and soft rears (54199). I like them alot, even better than the kit foams for outside. Balance toward mild understeer but Tamiya Ti king pins and soft T-plate are the only mods. Softer front springs would improve front bite, just haven't bought 'em yet.
Still driving a D.Drive car though, not a F201 that does fine even if a little loose on rubber.

I am having a bit of a mixed opinions now..
Would a Tamiya Sport Tuned (Black Can?) motor be faster than say timing booster-able 17.5T??
Besides the hassle of worrying about burnt brushes, or anything to do with maintenance, is a 17.5T really faster than a Tamiya Sport Tuned motor (23T?)
or the other way round??

To those that race, how do you build your diffs and with what grease? What have you found to give the most consistent performance?

Sport tuned is 28T. 17.5 is deffinately way faster but you have to gear it higher to get the speed as the 17.5T has loads more torque. We will run the sport tuned in our local F1 TCS series for the next season....should be interesting as this is the first time in a while we will be running the F1 class, well also a first for me too
