Gulf Coast RC Track Racers, Porter Texas (Houston)
#182
Good Evening Guys,
The GulfCoast Racers were well represented this weekend at the inaugural RC Pro On-Road National Championship Race held at GulfCoast Raceway. The weekend started on Friday, for most of us, with beautiful weather for a great practice and tuning day. Jeff Parker sugar coated the track in the morning and we ended up with a well grooved track all day long. Saturday came and so did the fog. The moisture did not go away until mid day and only after Jeff and the hobby shop crew used blowers as well as butane torches to dry the track. We got all three of the scheduled qualifying heats per class in just before dusk. On Sunday, the weather was back to what any Chamber of Commerce would have ordered and we started the day with the fourth and final qualifier with the Mains to follow. The racing was great!!!!! Here is my attempt to recognize all of our guys that raced this weekend. I will go in the order that the Mains were held.
1/8th Open “C” Main:
Doug Darby – 1st
Lin Harris – 4th
Expert Sedan “B” Main
Eduardo Romero – 1st
Jason Lee – 2nd
Feb Caronongan – 3rd
Robert Rocha – 4th
1/8th Open “B” Main
Matt Akkola – gets the bump to the “A” Main
Ian Pattie – 4th
Intermediate Sedan “A” Main
Tim Walker – 2nd
Roger Bourland – 5th
Tony Torres – 6th
Carl Lee – 9th
****Special Award By RC Pro Race Committee of 10th to Nick Marson – Nick was entered and practiced all day Friday but took ill and even visited the hospital early on Saturday morning. While he is well now, he was in no shape to join us for the weekend. He was missed by all and we look forward to his return at the next club race on DEC 3rd. Nick, I have your trophy along with your pit table.
Expert Sedan “A” Main
Binson Cheng – 2nd
1/8th Open “A” Main
Matt Akkola – 9th
Also present were John Stranahan taking all of the pictures that you will get to see soon, Herman Rodriguez who pitted for Binson, Brian Maligaya pitting for Tony, Dominic DeBlassie and Steve Saltus and his wife taking in all of the action packed racing.
Don’t forget that the next RACE DAY is scheduled for DEC 3rd. Jeff Parker wanted me to remind all of you that he has the entry forms for the upcoming Speedline Grand Prix that is going to be held at Gulf Coast in March. Stop by the shop and get your entry filled out and let’s make another great showing. Congratulations to all of the racers and those who pitched in. A special thanks goes out to Mike and Carol for providing us such a special place to play and to Jeff and all of his crew at the shop.
See you at the finish line,
Roger

Just wanted to let the RC Pro Series and MHS know that my son and I had a wonderful time at the race. We attended as spectators. Would have stayed longer but Matthew started to fall asleep.
Matthew thanks the RC Pro Series for the T-Shirt he received.
Hope to make it up there more often.

We had 18 cars entered in our last club race on-road. There were about 30 off-road racers at the first club race on the new off-road track. The track is just north of Houston near the big airport off 59.
