Decided to wait for the new 14.8 hard case.

Dan - PLEASE hurry up with these!

Dang.. everything ready, except for batteries I emailed Horizon Hobby 1 week before they would get
the C-Max 14.8V 5400mAh 40C LiPo, Deans from Danny. They said they would email me back as soon
as the batteries arrive. I just checked their site, and they are Out Of Stock.

So.. no softcase nor hardcase! No racing for me :'(

The softcase 5400 will fit the AE tray. As far as our hardcase it will not fit the AE tray as it will be to long. I don't believe we will make a hardcase for the AE tray as this is the only car that uses this size plus racers can always use 2 of the 2S hardcase packs.

Guys:

I am aware that LiPo batteries and their design has changed over the past 5 years. I wonder if soft-case packs are safe enough to use on club racing, etc.

Many say the cells can get punctured if they get in a crash or if they unplug for some reason...

What are your opinions regarding this issue? I have been thinking about getting the a few SMC 4S-5400-40C batteries, but I am afraid of getting one punctured in a crash, and loosing my gear due to a cell popping up, fire, etc

A lot of guys have been running soft cased lipos for years now, myself included. I have absolutely no reservations about it and will continue to run soft case packs until a reliable manufacturer (i.e; not Losi) makes a 4S hard case pack. Even then, I run 5S and 6S in some of my vehicles and they will remain soft case. The chance of having a fire from a punctured lipo from a crash is very very low. Treat the packs with respect, follow the basic charging guidelines and secure them well in the vehicle and you should never encounter a problem.

@Skelly:

Thanks for the words... I think I will purchase one of these soft-case batteries. It is a shame Associated went with a different tray size, making it
very unlikely for batteries manufacturers to cater a hard-case pack just for it.

Heck, even Danny that is so supportive and open-minded will not work on a pack for it.

Now.. hopefully Stormer Hobbies or any other hobby will get the "darn" SMC5440SC soon! :P

$260 for 2 compared to $184 for the 4s?

I am waiting for the 4s hardcase to be released as well for the tekno rc8 tray, pretty sure its the same as the ae tray.

How much more then the softcase will it be?

Hopefully, Danny should get the 5440SC batteries shipped out Today, and Stormer may ship backordered items soon! Fingers Crossed!

Our 5400/40C hardcase pack will not fit in the AE tray or other trays with the same size.

The pack will have close to the following dimensions. 43mm x 49mm x 165mm

Were still waiting on an update from our supplier as to when these packs will be assembled and shipped. As soon as I know when they are on the way to us I will post it.

Well, I guess this will have to work then. Are these going to be the same cells used in the 2s hardcase c-max packs?

These packs are using our 2700/40C flight cell. The materials used are the same as our 5200/40C packs which use a 2600/40C cell.

Danny:

Which distributor should get most of these batteries in stock once you ship them out?

I know some of us are behaving like kids from being desperate to get what we believe are the best packs out there, but it is pathetic that I can't back-order 8 of these from one of your distributors, "Due to high demand (back orders) and a possible limited amount of items that will be received"!

2 brand new truggies and 1 brand new buggy that my son and I can't use.

Normally Stormer orders a good amount of our new packs.

For the guys looking for hardcase packs that will fit the AE tray were looking into doing a case. The pack would be a 5200/40C.

Is this for sure? Are these in the works or just plans? If they are released within the next month or two, I can just get 2 of the 5400/40c Soft Case, and then purchase a few of the hard-case.

Were studying the possibilty of doing a new mold of our 2S packs and have a different top or bottom piece to make the case higher for a 4S pack. I should have more info next week as were sending out sample packs to the mold maker to see if this can be done. In theory it should be possible but I must wait for the answer from the mold people.
