Hi all...

iam so happy with my SMC packs..
voltage is ballistic,, with 1.178, 1.179, and 1.180.

for stock racing these are so nice. thanks SMC for putting the effort in and creating something special.

PS,, anyone had cells with higher than 1.180..

1.186 here in the uk I have seen. matched by smc.

A quick question for anyone who owns a Protrak charger when you connect the remote leads and run a cycle when the cells are close to cut off does one cell in the pack drop down to 0.50 and the rest stay at around 1v when discharging? Hope someone can help with this.

These are ment to be my top cells from Orion.

Thanks

Rick

I have 3 packs that are in that Range... 1.186 with 425 Run time and 2.2 IR and the others are 1.184, 420 runtime and 2.3 IR ...and a 1.182 with 410 Runtime and 2.4 IR.

They are the norm here in Japan... you can go to about any Hobby Store in Tokyo and buy a 1.183+ pack...but you"ll pay for it.. 13000 Yen or about 107$
Helps when you know one of the owners of the Shop

Korgae

is this for trinity's real time and integy's octane2?

also... so this means that the batts are at zero volts right?

just want to clarify since before, it was not reccomended to dischrage the GP's to 0 volts...

thanks - jason

For all those who are worried about dead shorting.

i just tested my GP 3300's and also my ultrametal 3000's

on both packs i have lost 200mah, gained .2 of a volt and droped the internal resistance by 2 or 3 eg 31 to 29.

i discharged my packs to 5.4 volts then put on the Trinity realtime discharger till lights went out i then left deadshorted for aprox 4-5 hours.

results = awsome " if your a stock driver"

mabey a longer deadshort period would produce more voltage. Only more testing will find out.

At the moment iam testing to see if the second charge during the day " 2 hours rest" produces better numbers than the first charge..

will keep you updated.

Default n00b help?

Greetings gang,

I recently got back into the hobby after a 15 year absence...

To get me started off again, I left my LHS with an MRC 959 charger and a SMC GP3300MSP pack.

After checking the SMC website, I discovered that the 959 won't do the recommended charge rate of 6A; I settled with the 959's max rate of 4.5A, and set the deltaV at 50mv.

I'm seeing charge times of ~ 8 minutes. (!?!?) Run times are awfully short, considering I'm running a 27 turn stocker that's substantially undergeared.

Am I on crack, or does my 959 have some issues? I've been running the pack flat in the car and waiting for it to cool (or until next day) before charging again.

I'd appreciate a kick in the right direction; I realize I'm a) undereducated and out of the loop after all these years, and b) on the serious low-tech side in the setup/equipment department.

Thanks in advance.

Does your 3300 pack get warm to hot after a charge?? or does it stay cold..
It sounds like its not getting a full charge.

Your charger may be falce peaking,,

After your next charge.. re peak the pack..

See how that goes.

Painy - thanks for the tip; I'll give that a shot.

I whipped up a lightbulb array to try and bring the pack down to the recommened 5.4v. I monitored the voltage with the pack connected to the lighbulbs and disconnected it when it got to ~ 200mv. Within 10 seconds of disconnecting the bulb's, the pack is back up to 6.5v. Is there a trick to getting the pack to sit around 5.4v? Perhaps I should store it shorted overnight/before next charge?

I'll get back into the swing of things sooner or later. *lol* Or buy a nitro car to play with while I'm waiting for packs to charge...
