Opinions vary on the lipo thing personally I run one and love it. That controller box you are talking about is a lipo regulator. The down side to lipo is it takes a lipo ready charger which you may not have.
Here are some links to check the stuff out

servo
Hi. everybody. I have been running the 8 since 2 months ago.
My problem is that I have broken 4 steering servos in this time.
I have heard about this problem in the throttle servo. I Didn't have problem with the throttle servo but I am crazy with the steering servo.
Do you know what is happening with it?

LOL. I started to write an explanation of some of that stuff then realized it would take awhile. None of that stuff is specific to the 8ight, it holds for all cars. But, Integra is right, there are good explanations of some of that stuff in the manual. There's some stuff I printed out when I first started doing this, I think I may still have it bookmarked. I'll see if I can find the link.
BTW, bump steer is what it sounds like, it's the tendency of your car to steer itself due to toe in/out changes when the suspension reacts to bumps. On most cars it's changed by adding spacers beneath the ball stud, on the 8ight you can change it by moving the steering ball up or down. Bump steer is usually not desirable, esp. on rough tracks and you try to get as close to 0 bump steer as possible. A little is sometimes used on smooth tracks to help calm the car in the corner.

Hello.
I just picked up an 8ight truggy and my Picco .28 motor has a hard time fitting into the stock mounts. I'm sure I could fit it in with *minor* dremeling, but wondering if this is a sign that I need different mounts?
Thank you!

go back factory on the needles. set the idle gap to .7mm. then start it up get it up to temp and start leaning on the top end till it clears out and sounds good but still has a decent trail of smoke. Then start leaning on your bottom end. You can do the pinch test but if you are running a speed normall flush with the houseing and the slot parallel to the chassis is a good spot for th bottom on. +/- 1 hour or so
