You did right setting both belts the same. All belts aren't made equal, so one will almost always be different than the other. No big deal. Idealy you want the belts as loose as you can run them without skipping for reduced friction...

I had the belts at the point where is just doesn't skip. But it seems the belts vibrate so much that my top speed was hindered. I made it one notch tighter, and felt the car pull faster. Also, the TA05 chassis flexes forward, so your belts actually get looser upon braking. Make sure you test the tension of the belts while listening during full braking.

That can be a problem with brushless i have seen many pulley stripped because of the loosness of belts and with my mi3 i have set the belts very loose and very tight ......... tight drives nicer and less rolling friction

I'll try asking again, anyone have a decent carpet/rubber set up they wouldn't mind sharing?

diff rear set loose-med
tamiya white springs front
tamiya blue springs rear
60wt oil
2 hole pistons
medium front stabiliser

TA05R with Carbon Chasis
Rear Susp Mount A + Mount D (Std) No shims
Front Susp Mount A + Mount A (Std) No shims 0 degree toe
4 degree caster c-hubs
front camber 2 degrees
rear camber 2 degrees
Front One Way: Critical for on power steering
Front Shocks: TRF w/AE 30 lb purple springs 2 hole pistons 50 wt oil
Mounted Middle hole of shock tower / outer hole on A arm
Back Shocks: TRF w/AE 19.5 lb gold springs 2 hole pistons 40 wt oil
Mounted 2nd From Top on shock tower / inner hole on A arm
Large front stabilizer - preloaded 2 mm
Soft rear stabilizer
1 mm front droop
2 mm rear droop
4.5 mm ride height
Camber links: Exact middle on inner mount (front & rear) and outer on rear hub. 2.5mm spacer under the front inner mount. 1mm spacer under rear hub ball connector.

Battery compartment dremeled so Trakpower 4900 lipos lay flat on the bottom + 28 mg of weight added to battery side of chasis

Jaco Green (spec) tire on medium grip carpet. Death grip tx compound.

13.5 brushless with 64 p 46T pinion and 96T spur.

This set up will probably only work with a one way. I'm considering adding .5 mm of front kick up and/or soft back springs because the car turns in hard. Most people who test drive my car hit pipes on entry.

In my opinion you will be all over the place chasing a set up that you didn't derive for your track.

The stock set up will get you within the ballpark but you will need to get the right tires for your track, that is about 80% or more of the set up. Next is to stiffen the suspension, I prefer the white springs in front and 50wt with blue in back and 40wt. That combo seems to work well with a 13.5 motor. Camber is -1 all around and I use CS27 tires or Sorex 28. No rear stabilizers.

Good luck and have fun.

Yea I know, it's been about 10 years and I'm building a car for my 6 year old also, so I was trying to get a starting point. I wasn't sure how good it ran out of the box.

Thanks for all the replies, gives me some ideas to start with.

I stopped by the local track and one of the guys into Tamiyas said the out of the box set up would be good starting point.

I forgot to ask him, anyone know what the stock shock oil weight is. I looked through the manual and don't see the actual weight referenced anywhere.

Also, what that Tamiya oil weight equals in some other brands.

Thanks

Start with 30wt in the rear and 40 up front.

Hey guys...

I've got a new IFSr, have raced twice now...great car! Really loving it.

Anyone know what size turnbuckle wrench is necessary for the stock blue aluminum turnbuckles? Getting tired of using the kit wrench and marring up the nice blue color! I think it's 4mm, but want to make sure before spending $ on a nice new wrench. Thanks!

Default 13.5 BL Gearing

What gearing do you recommend for a 13.5BL motor (medium asphalt track)?

Thanks.
