Guys, if you're looking for a dirt cheap temporary fix, I would get my hands on a sheet of 1/8 inch or 3mm G10 fiberglass (some hardwares stores carry it). Lay the stock towers on the sheet, scribe the outline of the tower on it with a hobby knife, then use a dremel to the cut sheet. G10 is way more flexible then carbon fiber this should help against diff cases breakage until Xray gets everything sorted out. Going to a thicker/less flexible 4mm carbon fiber tower will only make matters worse.

Just a heads up guys, the AE spurs don't fit without a little bit of modification to them.
Firstly, the center hole is too small. You have to drill it out to 6mm.
Secondly, the xray slipper pads are a tad to big for the AE spur. You can either trim the xray pad, or use the AE slipper pads.
And lastly, the pins on either side of the spur is a bit tight, but they do fit.

I was able to fit up to a 29t pinion with the 78t spur. And if you still need more, AE also make a 72t spur.

Drove the XB4 today and put 5 battery packs through it. New to 4wd buggy so it took a pounding - hit the agg pipe many times and did a bit of cartwheeling! It held up well - nothing broke and diffs still feel 'buttery smooth'. The track was also very rough as it's about to get a facelift, so there was a lot of rocks coming out of the clay and small holes on the surface and it ate it up nicely.

The car certainly turned well, but I can't comment on much else as I don't have any experience with anything else.

Happy customer so far.

Does anyone know the actual spring rates for the stock springs? Im thinking about either using avid or kyosho springs. (I already have sets of both)

What about the people breaking towers at the shock? I know ive seen a few. Thats not ball cup issue.

I plan to

1) Secure ball studs and shock mounts with wider washers to spread the load further.

2) use some jb-weld for reinforcement on diff case weak area until xray comes up with a fix.

If this is lb/in, those springs are extremely soft compared to other brands.

Xray use a "C"-rate on their springs. But from what I recall, its lb/in.

Indeed CNC. I won't make it from delrin, Delrin is quite a hard material.

You can also take your original tower, draw it on lexan and cut it with a dremel. Should work too.

I have an XB4 on the way so I've been following this thread and the issues with the towers/bulkheads. I'm a little confused why everyone thinks ball cups should be popping off all the time. After a 10 year hiatus from racing I started racing again back in feb 2012 with a losi 22 and an xray T3 2012. I race 3-4 times a month and in that time I have not popped off a single ball cup. If I had I would be pissed because they shouldn't be coming off, ever. Ball cups are not fuses, they are critical components that should stay on.

This is an issue with the towers and/or bulkheads not with the ball cups.

Thanks for the input/reminder.
I did some math based on what is available for the TC springs to get the rating in lb/in. Note there is an approximation, this is not perfect but give the ball park.
