Thanks for the reply guys.

I'll go and check them all out.

Can anyone tell me what effect putting a hole in the center of the brush has. I know it produces more RPM and less torque in some cases, but why?

I'm in no way an expert, but this is my take on the brush thing...

If you put a hole in the brus, or cut it down, or whatever, there is less contact area between the brush and comm, therefore less resistance, so the arm can spin faster. However, with a full brush, more current is transferred to the comm, producing more torque. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct me...

If thats the case can we say that serrations would give you even more of the same effect? Have anyone ever made made side by side comparisons betweeen full face, serrated, slotted and holed brushes?

Default Dual shunt E brush experience

We did our first races using the new Trinity dual shunt E brush and were impressed with the performance -- two A Main wins in stock sedan and 1/12 scale stock. The early consensus is the extra shunt isn't what's new but that the brush may be a different compound than the regular E brush.

Here's what we ran:
1) Stock sedan -- Started with a Fantom P2K LE with purple springs both sides as came from factory. Then tried reds on both poles, didn't work well. The combo that gave us the best lap times was red/green. The overall performance was a bit better than the Fantom factory set up of notched Trinity brushes and purple springs.

2) 1/12 scale stock -- Started with Fantom GM3 LE with red/green springs and ended up using green on both poles to get the most consistent voltage draw from Sanyo 3000HVs for the 8-minute run time. Was able to gear up two teeth and win by a lap.

TypeS -- We've run a Trinity prepped GM3 Pro in our TC3 and used E brushes sprung red/green. Worked well. One of the local fast drivers recommended gearing down for our track to 72/24 versus 72/27 with a P2K.

which stock motor would be better for a long sweeping track, a P2K2 or an MVP? lap times are about 23-25 sec for stock racing and i hardly use brakes as the corners flow from one to another. i previously used a GM3 on my TC3 with a 72/30 gearing. thanks for any info

marvi: why not stick with the GM3 if its been working for you. If you did well with the GM3, then the MVP would probably work just as well for you.

WOW!! 23-25 seconds??? I guess that is a LONG track... LOL! The track I currently race, A mainers are running less than 10 second laps.

Stick with the GM3, unless you are tired of smoking them... LOL!

well im geared any where from 100/34 to 100/36 in my tc3. our lap times vary week to week from 13.5 seconds to 19 seconds.

i think for my next set of brushes ill try the fantoms but damn they are expensive. i get my trinity brushed for $3 a pair, the fantoms are around $5 a pair.

how are the niftec brushes? are there any other brushes out there that i should try?

and i might get a MVP soon to try out.

thanks for the replies yes, it really is a long track. 4wd mod do 20 sec lap times. i think the track was originally built for 1/8 gas racing, so 1/10 touring have lots of room in the track. i wanted to try something different other than my GM3, im about to retire it soon, two more lathe cuts probably and the comm is worn out.

what about the peak hellfire stock motor? any feedback? i think its similar to the old chrome stock motor, without the chrome plated can. i also have a chrome stock but i dont use it on our long track, the GM3 seems much faster. but on short tracks, the chrome seems to have more torque.

hey marvi! so this is where you hang out

know what? i was running with you guys using my trusty rage, and so far i was pleased with it. I bought an MVP cause I liked the Reedy stock, and guess what? Using the same gearing as the Rage, I was being left by the pack.

To be fair, I haven't really exeprimented with the gearing, I just used the gearing I was using for the Rage. Seems I need to go a tooth higher, but that would mean i'm in the 5.9 final drive ratio, which seems too low, even for a stock motor....

Also, i've only recently read big jim's article on how to prep an MVP, a few tweaks here and there.... so looks like there might still be hope for that MVP.

Sorry I can't run with you and the rest of the guys for our weekly stock fun runs, I'm taking the TCS seriously this year, and it's fifteen consecutive sundays. It's a pain on the schedule, but it's great fun
