my first 50laps with my T3, i ran with the stock shock, plastic with 3holes pistons both.
After 25laps, plastic shock body heating and oil come more thin... And handling change...
Fastest lap : 8.667
The shop on the track have fortunately the xray alu shock and i get and started to buil with the same config.
50laps later , my fastest was : 8.458 ...
And for fun, i wanted to try my tam shock from my 416x... Same oil config and 3holes piston...
Fastest... 8.222
Record of the track... 8.179
Back again with the plastic shock and i cant lowered my fastestlap...8.490...
So for me the shock be the big black point on my t3.
After 25laps, plastic shock body heating and oil come more thin... And handling change...

About the grip, when i ran, there is only 5 drivers this day at the track and they run 1/18 cars... So about the grip, it stay the same during the day.
About the details:
I build my shock with 25% of rebound front and 10% rear for all 3set of shock.
63mm lenght for 3set
Xray springs 3.0 front 2.6 rear
Droop 5front 6 rear
Ride height 5 front 5,5 rear.
24deg to 25deg celcius and 51 to 55% humidity.
Muchmore 32 tire and jack the gripper traction compound
20min rear/10min front
And protoform stratus 3 body
This was the result for me...
It's interesting to see if other guys have same result but is important to test as i do.
During a quiet day, test in first plastic shock for 50laps, then swap to xray shock for another 50 laps, then swap to tam shocks and finally do it again from the begining with plastic and compare fast laps

The other variables are the shock bladders, valve holes and size of holes. If all of those are the same too, then it must be fm.

Be carefull guys, i dont tell tam shock give u .5 per lap but for me, i was able to approch the record lap not to break record lap by .5 sec!!!
For me and my driving style, i m more confortable with tams shock.
They dont give u a big advantage but they only allow little bit more lateral grip.
About shock bladder, they are stock coming with the shock. Tam for tam shock and xray for xray shock.
Holes, they are 3holes tam and xray. I dont know about the size of the holes

I think stock Tamyia 3 hole pistons are 1.1mm. The Xray fixed 3 hole pistons are .9mm. So that alone would give a lot more lateral grip if using the same oil in both with different size holes in the piston. I believe the alumn xray shocks use a 1.1mm hole in those

I think the plastic shocks can be very smooth, but remember to use very fine sand paper to file off the plastic burrs. There are a few things I do when I build shocks. I put the shock shafts in a drill and polish them with fine jewelry polish. This may be a bit much, but I do it anyway. Then I use HPI o-rings. They are a good balance between the stock ones (harder) and the GS ones. (softer) The GS and MIP ones wear and tear easily. Then I use AE green slim to remove any air gap and seat the o-rings in the body. This helps, but the Tamiya shocks are like butter.

Anything that can warm plastic will also warm alu bodies.
With the lubrication of the silicone oil, unless the weather changes nothing else should change.

Wow, I've never put that much effort into my plastic shocks and I've never had any issues with them. I've run a set before w/ the same oil for 6 months with no need to do anything to them.

i think this topic has been discussed a few pages back and from what i understand, they are in the process of making a tutorial video for it. they'll be posting the video at youtube.
been waiting for this tutorial as well
