A lot of people in Florida prefer the Pro Compound to the Pro Belted. But that's outside on blazing hot asphalt/concrete.

Any experiences on carpet?

Pro belts are pretty popular for carpet here.

Hope I don't open a can of worms and I'm definitely not complaining but has there been any talk of allowing the #102994/102993 series tires for VTA?? Am I correct that these are the "pro" compound version of the vintage tires??

I have seen where some tracks have banned one-way diffs but that is not a USVTA rule. Where I've seen it banned it seems to be because "drivers" pile into the back of a car that is slowing for a turn and the "driver's" excuse is "I've got a one-way...can't brake". Banning the one-way seems like a short-sighted means, what SHOULD be enforced is penalties for drivers taking out the car ahead of them. At the VERY least they should be held until they can follow the car that they hit back out of the corner.

Several folks have posted videos (thanks! always fun to see what others are doing) where I've seen quite a few "drivers" absolutely piling into the car(s) ahead of them. Seems the excuse for this is that "rubbin' is racin'", but THAT'S not rubbing--that's drilling someone and taking advantage. Intentionally or not. To my view "rubbing" is if cars are touching side-to-side. If the front of a car contacts another car that's a take-out and the offending driver SHOULD pull to the side until the driver he's drilled can be returned to the track and follow in behind that car. If he doesn't do so voluntarily he should be "black flagged" (informed by the race director that he has to pull over until the other car catches and passes him. I've seen race programs that were pretty wild-n-woolly until a few penalties were handed out (the ol' "penalty circle" at Seattle Indoor Raceway comes to mind) at which point folks figure out that rough driving (deliberate or otherwise) ain't the hot ticket.

Yeah I know it's VTA and all in fun, etc, but it AIN'T no fun getting drilled from behind by someone who should know better. What's fun is the give-and-take of real racing where you keep harassing the car in front of you until you find an opportunity to get by cleanly...maybe a little "rub" on the way out if need be, but not smacking them and spinning them out.

I agree to an extent...Intentional slamming is one thing, but you gotta remember, this is the slowest class in on-road racing. Therfore, you attract alot of novice and first time racers who are struggling to keep their cars between the boards and learning for the first time how to tune a suspension. A bit of rough play is to be expected. The problem I have are with the higher caliber drivers who enter VTA just to add another trophy to their collection, then get pissed when a noob doesnt follow the so called driving etiquete. I for one started out in 1/12th scale and simply couldnt keep up. If you accidentally took someone out, all you'd hear is the behind your back whining and crying about a set-up that is now lost. VTA has given racers like me a spot to race week after week where the only tears you see are from laughter!

I'm with Joe. There's a lot of contact in VTA and it's almost entirely of the unintentional kind -- especially at the club level. It's a great entry point for noobs and a laid-back class for more experienced racers. Some of the experienced guys are very generous with their help and encouragement (TigerRyan, Sharpie, Kaybo) and some, not so much. Point is, it's a great place to learn on-road. Since the spec is strictly controlled, participants are forced to work on setup and driving and not just the latest hi-zoot motor or speedo. I'm diggin' it.

I hear both of you and don't entirely disagree at all. Mistakes will happen, but mistakes of that nature SHOULD be followed by the offending driver pulling over and waiting until the driver they punted gets back by them. What I'm seeing on the vids is folks just whacking another driver out of the way and continuing on. You talk about "working on set-up and driving", THAT'S not "working on driving" when there's no penalty for jamming somebody. What you WOULD be surprised by is how much cleaner driving gets when there's a clearly stated (and enforced) penalty for "rough driving", intentional or not.

We had a REALLY light turnout today for club racing, not sure why other than this week and next week is our only "back-to-back" this season and next week we're offering two days of racing. Shawn and I continued our season long VTA battle which saw him pulling into the points lead (by two points) at our last race. This race in the main our top twenty average lap time was within .025 seconds. That's a half second difference between us over a 20 lap span. Unfortunately there were 45-ish laps and I made more mistakes than Shawn did on the other "invisible" laps.

I'm thinking we've got our cars dialed to pretty much the gnat's eyelash at this point. Neither of us are making many changes...I laid my shocks back down one notch to settle the rear after I'd stood them up at the Casino race (Paragon at that race...back was hooked better than our usual compounds and carpet) and that was really it.

Scottrik, I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but I think penalties such as "black flagging" or "pulling off to the side till the other car is put back on the track" is silly. Knocking someone out for personal gain is usually obvious and never tolerated at any level. At our home track, VTA seems to be the most popular class...consistently having the largest number of entries. Not only that, it also seems to draw the largest crowd of spectators! And for good reason! The slowest class is action packed from start to finish!

Next fall, my 5yr old son will probably be slinging a used XXX-S around the track. Now, if the guy running an X-RAY T3 with tire warmers and a laptop wants to join in , god bless him. But, if you think for a minute im going to punish my kid and put his car in "time out" for causing a first turn debacle just so "THAT GUY" does'nt get his panties in a bunch, your crazy. Where else can a beginner learn to love and enjoy this hobby? Not on the sidelines! Mix it up and enjoy the action, its a toy car for cryin out loud.
