Serpent Spyder SRX-2 Mid Motor Buggy Thread

You don't get to be a World Champion and designer of very successful cars by saying its "good enough." Reminds me of a Chrysler commercial from a few years back- "If we all settled for good enough, would anything ever really be good enough?" Its just funny that it was a Chrysler commercial...

I love my Rear Motor SRX2. I will be getting the MM version as well as I do run on astro and carpet often where my RM car is not the best so looking forward to the MM! Waiting for the pre-order on amain!

My point was counter to the assertion that a dedicated mid motor car had significant advantages over a conversion. Both of the cars you cite are B4 conversions. It appears that we agree with each other.

conversions vs dedicated mm car
A dedicated car that began as a mid motor, will usually be much better than a conversion from a different maker because:
1) it is cheaper, since you don't have to buy a rear car and then convert it:
a) serpent spyder mid will cost $300
b) centro c4.2 is $160 + b4.2
c) xfactory cubed is $225 + b4.2
2) you will get more molded parts because:
a) machining and stamping is much cheaper than creating molds
3) the fit and finish will all match (all plastic bits, chassis, etc.)
4) replacement parts will be cheaper since a dedicated car will produce many more units (economies of scale)
Having 2 separate cars (rm and mm) is the way to go. In addition, maybe serpent will come out with a conversion kit from rm to mm (if they price it at about $100, (chassis, body, rear bulkhead, rear tower, some plastic bits) it will sell quite well, and the combination of rm + conversion will be close in price to the centro + b4.2)

This car looks pretty awesome. I wonder what the race ready weight is? It's gotta be light. Hopefully they make it 3/4 gear swappable. Then I'd consider buying one.

Kit is inexpensive and a great value! But, I will say the parts are the most expensive out of that group. And like any car that is not supported at the local shop right now, initial investment will be high. I love my Serpent but I would not say this car is a low budget racer at this point in time.

In my opinion that's not a fair comparison.
The plastic and steel on the Serpent should be compared to a Xray product.
The quality of the manufactures you mentioned above does not compare to the Serpents Q.C.

Looks excellent! Notice how you don't have to disassemble the rear end to make a rear camber link adjustment. Very nice.

Looks great. Can't wait. Thanks for sharing the pics.
