I have had that happen too when I used blue thread lock or no thread lock instead of red around the motor; but in the end, as much as we spend on R/C i'm not sweating the cost if it means I finish or win the race vs. saving a few bucks cuz a plastic gear is cheaper.

I used to have some noise issues but this year Ive been using the card stock thickness method and its been alot quieter and my pinons have been lasting twice as long. Card stock is the thick paper on packaging of many plastic packaging you see r/c parts in, I also have used the same card stock from std. business cards to get the mesh just right.
Hey Jason! Sweet, how do you find they compare? I've heard from a few guys who've moved from mugen saying that the serpents are harder to set up but once dialled they are very happy. I was very impressed by the quality of the finish. Have you got a serpent truggy?

I've never had much success with the paper mesh thing but i have always thought you just used normal paper. Might try the card stock next time i'm struggling to get it right. Some times i get it first time, others it takes 3 or 4 goes.

Yes plastic are cheaper but a steel spur will last 3 times as long as a plastic one and pinions are usually the wear item (with steel on steel) which aren't much more than a plastic spur. In any case, you are more likely to strip a plastic spur than a steel one and DNF is not a word in my vocabulary.

the mugen cars are good i wont take anything away form them for 2 years i was on the team the cars were good. but some thing bothered me about them if you want talk about pm me. i wont post here.

when chicky gave me a chance to come run the serpent cars i had to make a hard descion. to leave a company i been with 2 years or try a new car fresh to the market. i been burnt in the past trying new car.

so a year later i learned alot and got alot smarter about the cars.

one thing i say is the wear rate is amzing. hands down.

the cars can be set up many differnt ways. you can set it up for point and shoot or set it up to drift it around. or to roll the conor and punch it out.

it took me a few months to get some the bugs out that i had thing i was over looking. i got covered and my cars were flawless.

chicky work hard on finding a set up that he liked and was fast ever where we went and then i changed it to my liking.

once i get my car done. i am draging him to the track for some testing.

once we got dialed in will post a set up for it

It will possibly just fit. The measurement I came up with was 47x52 max dimension. This esc's a little longer and might hit the side of the body 4mm it a lot in this car.

So what servo's are people running/recommending to run in this snake? Also for those that already have them, can you share what weight oils you started out with all the way around, did you start with the factory settings?

For steering servo it's hard to beat the savox 1268's they don't break the bank and they perform great. My favorite servo is the KO rsx line. They are definatly at the top but they do stress the bank a little.

For fluids I started with the same as I run inthe nitro buggy 40 front and 30 rear with 5-5-4. After running the car I would bump the center fluid up to at least 7 as the front just unloads and turns the front tires into pizza cutters immediately when you pull the trigger hard. So prob 5-7-3 and 40/30 in the shocks with 1.3 pistons and maybe go up to 5-10-3 if the front still unloads.

The serpent is an E purpose built car from the ground up. Personally that wins in my book over a nitro car that has been converted to use E components. There are only 2 cars that I know of that can boast this and the other is not out yet. I like my serpents.

Especially with that big plastic cover on the 811E you can't easily check to see if your mesh is good.
I doubt that guy at the track is stripping the Kyosho spur gear. He's probably stripping the Losi or AE plastic spur gears, which suck in comparison to the Kyosho gear. The Kyosho gear isn't plain old plastic or delrin, its an actual composite, with some kind of fiber reinforcing the plastic. I've run the same gear for 2 seasons with only mild wear. The ONLY way you'll ever strip a Kyosho gear is if your motor moves.

Kyosho spur gears will strip and wear just as easily as Losi gears. I've run both, so I know.

The steel spur year is so quiet and there's never a lack of power in an e buggy why would you want to use plastic?
