Have you tried changing your setup at all? You can never add stability without taking away steering.

+1 The longer chassis is much more stable and if you make a couple changes with the setup, it is killer on the track. I cant hardly beleive that you cannot feel the increase in stability unless you run on a track that has very little to no jumps....

Perhaps not for sure, one of the first on this thread with a 8m , you need to change a few things to appreciate. Check out Coach's latest 8m set-up on www.Rc10.com

My +8 car is better than my short chassis in every way. Handles bumps better, jumps better, is more forgiving, and is more stable. All of that, and the car still turns on a freaking dime.

Of course, That goes without saying that I tried different setups, including my own tweaking but the car is definitely not "night and day" better at all. In fact I prefer the shorter standard setup.

Racers that say it is that much better, in my eyes, must have had a really bad initial short chassis setup, or possibly couldn't drive fast with a shorter chassis setup or maybe something else was wrong. But to say that 8mm (.314" longer) makes that much of a "huge" difference is something I have yet to see or experience.

This is coming from a previous factory AE/Reedy driver from many years ago, probably before many here were even into RC.
Just trying to put out honest opinions, not hype.

It probably depends on the track size too. Some tracks it may be way better, some maybe worse, then some, eh, not much different at all.

x2... best thing I have done to my car setup-wise to date... and I haven't changed anything else on the car except the chassis..

Change the chassis and add 1/2oz of weight by the servo.

Yeah, that must be what it is. Most of us experienced guys know nothing about car setup, and can't drive at all...

My car drives considerably better with NO weight in the servo pods.

We all appreciate your opinion I'm sure. At least I do. BUT, I have to tell you I've been around a long, long time too as have a number of the people who are responding to your post.

In fact, I was sponsored when I was MUCH younger, too. (Not AE/Reedy) Seems like a lifetime ago. This is my first time copping to that on this forum. Seemed like the appropriate time. I don't think I'm the only one on this thread, either. I suspect I know what you were looking to get out of the 8mm chassis and why you were dissapointed.

In any case, I've tried a lot of different combinations with the 8mm. It took a little time and effort but slowly I have completely fallen in love with it. It just does everything better if you take the time to get it right.

I've even tried the RCRD aluminum 8mm. I think that it's even better than the cut T4 chassis because it lowers the center of gravity significantly.

I hope this gives you something to chew on. I'd be happy to share my experiences of working toward a good setup with you if your interested.

Either way, good luck to you!

I know some good drivers who also didnt like the long chassis. Thats ok. It can be very different for everyone for sure. Finding a place where you enjoy the car is the point. How you get there may be different is all.
