I've been fighting with this truck since I bought it the rear end has been super squirly. Yesterday I installed some worn calibers in the front and left super soft enduros in the rear wow all.of a sudden I could actually hit full throttle coming out of the corners and down the straight without the rear trying to come around. I was on a small dry track hard packed dirt sand real.dusty almost lime ice very slick. I will. See if it was coincidnce or a fix when I go back to.the big 1/8 track wednesday night. Fingers crossed it was the tires. Would putting the 19t pulley on the front have the same effect. Im assuming less grip in the front calmed the rear down? Would lighter diff fluid do the same in the front 30000 installed now with 5 in the rear

If you're doing nothing but speed runs for 10 minutes straight, it could be that you are over-revving the motor...
I don't have any experience with REAL 540 cans in this truck....ran a Mabuchi 540RS to break it in, but that was it.... Also, my buddy was running a Novak 5.5T 550 in it, and his temps were "really high' during practice....until the race director talked to him and noticed that he was running 18-20 minutes straight....which will add a lot more heat than a 5 minutes qualifier or 7 minute main....
I say, get it on a real track and even if it is in practice, find out how long they run their mains for, and set a timer for that length of time....go and finish your last lap after your timer expires, then run down off the stand and temp the motor.... 200+ after 10 minutes might only be 170 after 7 and 160 after 5 and you might be OK...
Also, Krio is right, that super high traction will add a lot of temps too. We were running 14/62 on short grass and getting 150+ temps on our 550s...once I got it on the clay track, I was able to gear it up to 16/62 and was still barely hitting 150 in the mains.

My rear sway-bar is coming today and this Friday the plan is to hit the track with a ton of tools, a ton of oils/diff fluids, some ball stud spacers, and put a setup on this thing. Been reading all these posts and feel I have a good handle on where to go with it.

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you. I just got back into RC about a yr ago, the new stuff is awesome. The SCT are addicting. It's taken me about two weeks to read through all this good stuff, I feel like I went to school again.
So, is that clutch basket the real deal or what? I'm thinking about getting one, cause I feel like the slipper is slipping too much, and I'm not making jumps I should be easily making. I'm running the Novak Ballistik with the LRP esc. Any tips, please.

im running the losi 8ight shocks red springs 35 wt front 30 rear with hot racing sway bars 2.5 mm front and rear the sway bars helped out before the tire swap but swapping to less grip in the front really helped alot. i wont really know until i get back to the big track we were running at a friends small backyard track the truck has always jumped great. i switched to the losi shocks because in the past the blue anodized ae shocks have proven to be garbage. the anodizing wears off on the inside making the pistons loose and the oil turns to gray slime. i will try going down on the rear oil i have at least 15 -20 packs on it now im sure all the oil has just about leaked out because of the less than stellar oring setup on the diffs. i was one run away from selling it so maybe it caught wind of it and started acting right. ive been ae diehard from the beginning and am now just getting to where i feel comfortable semi driving the truck

Is there a max ambient temp lipos should be kept at? Saturday at our track the temp was about 105 degrees and we had two lipo packs that were just sitting around the pits "inflate". The inner metal pouches seemed to pressurize to the point the plactic cases popped open and the packs became unusable. One of them wasn't even being used, just being stored in a guys pit box. Very strange. Has anyone else seen this? I assume it is temp related.

Damn! I was runnin my 5.5T LRP/MMP 13/62 with 4 deg of boost and was hitting 170degrees, well today I threw n a fan on y heatsink and it lowerd the temps to 120. i bumped the timing up to 10deg's and my motor was hitting 160. The heatsink and fan does wonders.
Since no one seems to have tried some heavy diff fluids, I think I'll try out some 30k. Ill let you guys know what it does.

Had my LHS order one on 6/20 who's getting it from Towerhobbies/Great Planes distributor. Should I be getting mine from the batch that BlueGlowBoy JUST missed? On a side note, it seems that AE fixed the turnbuckles and shocks

I try to deal with temps without relying on a fan. Hopefully that heatsink will save you in case of fan failure.

Guys, I highly recommend this slipper mod. Night and day difference with my 4x4. Motor was about 20 degrees cooler (Tekin 5.5 with RX8) and had plenty of bottom end too .
Kudos for this Stephen and shame on AE for not making this stock to begin with
Simple and brilliant.
Btw, I am using the 2 stock pads on the inside and HT on the outside but thinking I could easily do without the HT slippers from here on.
