Timing line is the correct interpretation. It could be worded better since, I meant line on the sticker, not the edge of the sticker. This will be corrected.

There doesn't need to be full transparency in the USVTA. If you have a question that needs a public answer, ask it in a public forum.
The VTA class is not that complicated. Don't take second-hand "clarifications" as fact, and you won't have any issues.

I guess now would be as good of a time as any to post on this topic.
Our track owner has asked me to run our VTA class. Further, I am the guy being referred to here:
And in response to this:
I have to share what we've done with our local VTA class.
* implemented a 3.7 FDR limit so that older cars can be competitive (we have a large 170ft x 70ft track).
And we've made three clarifications to the rules as well:
* graded rotors are not permitted (they are not on the rules by part number, but a couple of guys wanted to run them anyways, so we explicitly stated that they were not permitted)
* epoxy filled stators are not permitted (same situation as the rotors)
* timing limit - 45*. USVTA rules were unclear, guys wanted to run it at the edge of the label, but I did a few quick google searches and found several other posts where Rob was clear that he meant it to be 45* (the last line ON the label, not the edge) and also confirmed it with the idea that SS motors (when fully cranked) end up with about the same timing, so it makes sense that the timing limit would be 45* so that the SS motors are on par.
That's it, that's all we've done. We have put a lot of effort into sticking with both the letter AND spirit of the VTA rules, and we really have not deviated. I have been in contact with Rob more than once to make sure I'm interpreting things correctly and taking the class in the successful direction.

as long as it is out, what do you guys think of the "graded rotor" rule?
I think it is dumb as I have tons of rotors and always choose the best one, which is usually higher rated than the "graded" ones, plus how can you tech? you can't disallow a rotor that read over 1300 as it MAY have come in the original motor

Roll Call for Thursday, May 12, 2011. Who is going to be at Mike's Hobby Shop Raceway to race VTA? Even if you don't have your VTA all put together just show up at Mike's so that I can take a picture for the VTA web page

so, I'm supposed to run the one it came with till it is at 900 and I crawl around unable to change rotors?
I would be down for that if everyone had their rotors guassed(sp?) and we all ran the same numbers but that is silly waste of time
