Can the capacitor board be de-soldiered and re-soldiered to the back of the esc?

Drop the pinion more....

try like, 26/27 pinion. Sounds like its WAY over geared.

a 13.5 running slow is not over geared its under geared.. try a taller spur..

Ok I need some help/ I have a viper 8.5, novak GTB in a sc10. It is currently geared 21/84 and adv the timming to 40deg. it runs at 130 after a 10 min run and this thing is only slightly faster than my balistic 10.5 with same exact gearing, with the adv timing I do love how smooth it is out of the hole. I put in a friends novak 8.5ss geared 18/84 (the recomended starting point for 8.5) and it will shit all over my viper 8.5 with the 21 gear. I started at 18 and it wouldnt out run a 17.5 great temp though it was only about 90 deg after like 15 min. So my 1st question is do I keep gearing with stock timing till I get to like 150 deg? or can I leave tinming where it is add another gear or 2? which is better?

I'm sorry, but I completely disagree. I ran a K car all last indoor season. You need to drop your spur to like a 72 or 76. I ran stock and then moved to mod and ran same spur.

Sorry Smokin, but it's like the SC10. You have to drop the spur down in order to get anything out of the brushless motors.

Trust me on the K Car. Go to a 72 or 76 and mid 20's pinion.

My SP2 gearing
Stock-34/72
8.5- 23/72
13.5 gearing-25-26/72 depending on boost/timing

You don't have to believe me...but I ran this car all winter and it was crazy fast

Smokinu, I think you have the spur gear size change backwards. If you're undergeared, you want to decrease the size of spur or increase the size of the pinion.

That will give you a smaller final drive ratio and will give you more top end, with the possible sacrafice of some low end.

Any suggestions for gearing. Running a Viper 13.5 system in T4.1 on an average sized but "tight" loamy outdoor track. Any suggestions for a starting point?

For 13.5 boosted, try:
23/72 or 24/75 or 26/81 or 27/84. Basicly, start with a final drive ratio of about 8 and go from there depending on yoru track conditions and such. Be sure to check your motor temps.
