That's ok. Gens Ace are already cheap. I don't even feel them get warm when I charge at 3C. So I see no harm done.

having had 3 turnigys and 2 maxamps puff in my time using lipos I think I will go the safest route possible...

This is new tech and is changing fast. Perhaps by just getting in to LiPo I have no baggage from early adopters, but the facts that over 1C charging will shorten their life span (at least to a significant degree) are slim to come by. Or is a loss of a few % of cycles, if any, a big deal to some? Is it due to fire hazards? I can't see manufacturers promoting a practice that would cause death to their users... well maybe a little bit.
Of course I am still learning a lot, and I don't want to 'fight it out', but the scientist in me wants to see some proof on this, otherwise I will remain skeptical. Maybe another statement that gets credence by sheer repetition. Just like 'warming up your (full sized) car in cold weather' is a hold over from carburetor days, yet I still see it mentioned like it was gospel for modern fuel injected cars.

If you want to continue with these words and name calling take them someplace else as it is not acceptable behavior. I don't care if you spell a donkey with a $$ or miss the c in another word. Can someone post any facts on this still being true? I can't find anything. On the other hand I see manufacturers specifically saying they can be charged up to 5C. And I see many posts similar to the above, but little to back it up.

I'm kind of a Gens Ace fan. They seem to be ok. The case really bothers me for 2 reasons. One, the gold marble paint scheme is horrid. Two, my case needed to be taped shut after about 3 charges. Pack isn't puffing, they just don't stay together.

In my experience I charge packs at 1c(at the mhz rating, 5000mhz equals 5amp charge rate safe) I dont balance charge my packs every time, but at least at the start of the day. I discharge the pack once a month to 3v/cell and charge back up to ensure it balances right. and I dont have any problems, Every once in awhile I have a pack die because I over discharge it(IE starter box battery) but they dont catch fire, they will only smoke anymore, There are certain type of lipos you can charge at 2 and 3c, but they are mostly airplane packs that would take forever to charge at 1c.
I still charge them at 1c because I don't like buying things twice. If I can be patient in the charging process and get more life out of my battery... no brainer
I had a pack smoke once, took it out and disposed of it, it never caught fire.

I put some good money into a charger and power supply just for this reason. I'm gonna put that bad boy to use at it's full potential. To each there own.
I don't have time or enough batteries to sit around and wait for them to charge in an hour or more while at the track.

Most LiPo experts now feel however you can safely charge at a 2C or even 3C rate on quality packs that have a discharge rating of at least 20C or more safely, with little effect on the overall life expectancy of the pack as long as you have a good charger with a good balancing system. There are more and more LiPo packs showing up stating 2C and 3C charge rates, with even a couple manufactures indicating 5C rates. The day of the 10 minute charge is not far off (assuming you have a high power charger and power source capable of delivering that many watts and amps).
Once again, the three main things that shorten LiPo battery life are HEAT, OVER-DISCHARGING, & INADEQUATE BALANCING.
