Hmmm those larger pinions with the machined holes would be very nice for spec class racing! Less rotating mass
Jconcepts Barcodes, Gold Compound
Proline Suburbs, MC (Clay) Compound
Either one, Jconcepts is a little better because they have different 'Y' sizes along the sides so you can choose how to mount them. This is from the website from a team driver:
"I prefer to mount them with the big connected Y to the outside for normalblue and black groove conditions. If the track has a lot of rubber on it or extremely high grip I would look at running them the other direction"

Soft, wet clay... Pink slicks
Med, damp clay... Panther Switch, Losi BK Bars, Pro-Line Suburbs... All pink compound
Hard, dry clay... JConcepts Barcodes gold compound
Very hard, very dry clay... Pink slicks with hard inserts
Of course tire selection will vary from track to track... theres quite a few factors...
The key is to balance traction front/rear... be careful not to get too agressive of a front tire or it'll feel like it wants to spin out everywhere making it hard to drive.

I think you are going the wrong direction on the gearing. Non-timing you go up on the pinion, but with timing you gear more like a mod motor and drop teeth. I was running my RS with 45* timing, and 28/72. Now with timing off mode, and 10* on the motor I run 33/72.

This is how I understand it too.
