Gregg sorry to hear about the esc ... Seems like it's happening to a lot of rx8s.... Hope it wasn't a bad batch.

For the pinion gear you probably flattes the screw tip, get a new one and make sure to tighten the hell out of it

What kind of Loctite? If Blue, try Red. The high strength red, not the high temp Red. Fortunately I have not had that problem, even with Loctite Blue.

Gregg, that sucks to hear. I hope your luck turns around! Did the servo survive and what happened with the ESC? Smoke to just died?

Someone said tekins were the BMW of esc's.... I'd like to call them the jaguars.... Pretty, smooth, but always in the shop. Haha

I plugged the hot-wire in last night and had trouble with it again. Finally got it to work. I got to the track plugged a battery into it and turned it on grabbed it by the wing to carry it over to the track. Blipped the throttle twice to check it, make sure it was on set it down. It went 10 feet and died. Grabbed it no lights. Brought it back over to the bench unplugged the sensor wire plugged it back in, pulled the battery plugged it into the laptop, light came on. Looked at the settings. It's still running in stock mode. I haven't tried any other settings. Pulled the wire plugged it back into the receiver, as soon as the battery leads touched, smoke came rolling out of it. Didn't even drive it.

Wow, another one bites the dust. Not a great track record these past couple of days for the RX8 on this thread!

Whats that sitting to the side of your motor Billy? Temp sensor???

And this is the reason I run Mamba Monster ESC/Tekin motor. The RX8's just fail too often! There was a time at tracks around here, I'd see at least 1 per day fail. I thought they were fixed, but I guess I could be wrong. Not saying the Mamba Monster doesn't fail, but it seems a lot more reliable from what I've seen.

Yeah I am using the kind that came with the kit. I will try Red kind. It also sounds good on bottom end but when winding her out in a turn she is making a weird noise. Maybe it is just the way they are supposed to sound. What you guys think?

Oh and boo to castle!!!

My RX8 is going strong!!!

I have nothing bad to say about Tekin, I've heard they are fair with their customers and very pro-active. So I'll return it. It's about 2 weeks old. Hopefully all goes well. I'll have to get a hold of Randy.

Before you install your pinion, soak it with motor spray, brake cleaner or de-natured alcohol. They come from the factory with a coating of oil to prevent rust. Adding a dab of blue loctite to the motor shaft flat helps too. Also make sure your mesh is not too tight.

Oh boy, that sucks. It sounds like there was more than just a software issue from the get-go, so hopefully the replacement will be trouble free for you, like your servo.

Yes, I'll agree. I hope they take care of you.

Castle makes great products, and I felt the MMP was super smooth, but the MMM hesitates and cogs just a bit on takeoff. It's just enough to be annoying. Also, if you're rolling backwards, there's a lot of hesitation before the motor will get the car moving forward again. This doesn't occur with the RX8 at all. Now, if Castle will build a sensored setup into the MMM like they did the MMP, they'll have a product that will really give the RX8 a run for its money.

We really need a description of the noise, and does it only occur in a corner? If it's only while cornering, I'd think it would be something with the diffs.

I tend to agree, but I seem to recall that when the MMM first came out, it had its fair share of problems too. Either way, at this point in time, I'd tend to agree with you. However, driving with the RX8 turns the RC8Be into a totally different car.

It's a capacitor for the receiver. It prevents glitching under WOT.

Very good advice.

I'm trying to figure out exactly how much to shorten the wires. I'm hesitant to shorten the battery wires, but I'm also hesitant to shorten the ESC wires...

not sure if you could ever say tekin customer service is better than castles. Castles is top notch, not questions, instant replacements. good luck though hope all works out!!

I agree 117. I plan on switching over to the RX8 once they get all of the issues reliability wise sorted out.

I have no idea where you people are coming from. I had 2 original ESCs that are still cranking with no issues. There may be isolated issues here and there but I would wager the fail rate is about even now between the 2 companies.
IMHO, most failures now are user related. Again, not all but most!

I run nothing but Tekin in all my gear
