Gregg sorry to hear about the esc ... Seems like it's happening to a lot of rx8s.... Hope it wasn't a bad batch.
For the pinion gear you probably flattes the screw tip, get a new one and make sure to tighten the hell out of it

What kind of Loctite? If Blue, try Red. The high strength red, not the high temp Red. Fortunately I have not had that problem, even with Loctite Blue.
Gregg, that sucks to hear.
I hope your luck turns around! Did the servo survive and what happened with the ESC? Smoke to just died?

I plugged the hot-wire in last night and had trouble with it again. Finally got it to work. I got to the track plugged a battery into it and turned it on grabbed it by the wing to carry it over to the track. Blipped the throttle twice to check it, make sure it was on set it down. It went 10 feet and died. Grabbed it no lights. Brought it back over to the bench unplugged the sensor wire plugged it back in, pulled the battery plugged it into the laptop, light came on. Looked at the settings. It's still running in stock mode. I haven't tried any other settings. Pulled the wire plugged it back into the receiver, as soon as the battery leads touched, smoke came rolling out of it. Didn't even drive it.

And this is the reason I run Mamba Monster ESC/Tekin motor. The RX8's just fail too often! There was a time at tracks around here, I'd see at least 1 per day fail. I thought they were fixed, but I guess I could be wrong. Not saying the Mamba Monster doesn't fail, but it seems a lot more reliable from what I've seen.

It also sounds good on bottom end but when winding her out in a turn she is making a weird noise. Maybe it is just the way they are supposed to sound. What you guys think?
Oh and boo to castle!!!

My RX8 is going strong!!!

I have nothing bad to say about Tekin, I've heard they are fair with their customers and very pro-active. So I'll return it. It's about 2 weeks old. Hopefully all goes well. I'll have to get a hold of Randy.

WOW that sux!!! Sorry to hear that. My trip to the park was cut short due to my pinion gear keeps coming loose. Any ideas on how to keep it intact> I am using locktight but it still comes loose. I think this last time I might have stripped the treads of the keep screw too.

We really need a description of the noise, and does it only occur in a corner? If it's only while cornering, I'd think it would be something with the diffs.

It's a capacitor for the receiver. It prevents glitching under WOT.
I'm trying to figure out exactly how much to shorten the wires. I'm hesitant to shorten the battery wires, but I'm also hesitant to shorten the ESC wires...

I have no idea where you people are coming from. I had 2 original ESCs that are still cranking with no issues. There may be isolated issues here and there but I would wager the fail rate is about even now between the 2 companies.
IMHO, most failures now are user related. Again, not all but most!
I run nothing but Tekin in all my gear
