no you dont need the hotwire.i dont use it and i dont think i ever will.tons o power already and the tekin combos are sooooo smooth i just dont see a need for playing with timing.but i will say it has advantages as you can custom set low voltage settings for batterys and such thiings.

Now I am worried I bought to big of a motor. When you say current limiter down to 75% does that decrease the speed of the buggy? I think I am going to buy it. Only problem is I have a $20.00 off of $50 or more coupon with tower that is about to expire. The hotwire is only $31. Can you guys think of anything else I should buy real quick?

the current limiter ,limits initial punch,so when u come out of a corner and get on the throttle you get 75%power wich allowes your buggy to hook up and get traction so it can handle the full power once it kicks in.it does give you 100% power at full throttle, its just the initial punch limit.it works very well.

Shock oil (use 25W ~ 35W with the tapered pistons below)
Diff oil (kit comes with 5,000 CST, can also try out 7,000 CST)
Updated diff o-rings (PN 89121)
10x1.1 tapered shock pistons (PN 89456)
Tires
Wheels
Pinions (I'd recommend Hot Bodies Mod 1 pinions)
You can use this as a starting point (other than the stock setup): http://teamassociated.com/pdf/cars_a...champ_2010.pdf

You don't "have to have" the Hotwire for now. You can adjust the important stuff right on the unit.
If you want custom voltage cut offs, access to the latest software, and the ability to change the timing you will need the hotwire.
Gearing is very important with these cars.

I posted this on the ve8 thread and got some answers. I thought it would be good to get the opinions of the rc8be peeps too. thanks:
I searched this forum for a long time because I bet thought this questions would be asked by a lot of newbies like me, but i guess not. Anyway here it goes. For people who have both or might hve one of them and know a lot about the other one: What do you think is good buggy for someone like me who already needs to buy a 1/8 motor ( not a esc for I have a mmp), a servo that's good, and ofcourse the kit.
I'm looking at the ve8 because on rctech i have heard good things about it. I have heard some bad things about it though. Like the plastic chassis and if you want a better chassis you have to pay 130 dollars for a HHH or tekno and even then you have to pay for a few other parts to make it fit!
Also the other rc buggy i was looking at was the rc8be. It has a nice chassis and everything. It costs a bit more. The rc8be is the most expencive I will go because I don't want to spend a billion dollars like I said before. One thing I don't like about the rc8be is the price, but do like the fact that it is associated who makes good crap. Also, The parts are everywhere not only for associated but for the rc8be.
If anyone has any input on what servos or motors also that would be great. thanks
Thanks to anyone who posts anything.

You are in luck. I have both of the cars that you are looking at. I used the VE8 all summer and then drove an out of box setup rc8be. This is my opinion so take it just as that. Buy the rc8be. The suspension on it feels plush compared to VE8. I have not broke anything other than a servo horn on the ve8. Aluminum skid plates are must also.

Could I get a link to those skid plates? Thanks

I had the same problem on my build (and that was last weekend). I slipped in a plastic bushing into each side so I didn't have to get in there as far with the nut. It's working perfect. But you're right, the tool they supply isn't going to fit. You will have to get a thinner wall nut driver or possibly do the bushing thing like I did. Just don't strip the nut!

So yes or no to the hotwire? Gregg, I have been a super saver member as well. Im a newbie to RC8Be, I have owned traxxas prior. However, I haven't really ever seen any other $20 off of order of $50 it's usually like $10 0ff $100. The hotwire is $31.95 so if I can think of $20 of other stuff I can use it's pretty much free. Problem is I can't think of $20 worth of stuff. Can you?
