The ones with steel spur gear tend to be loud, my RC8Be is super quiet compared to my Hyper 9e.

My RC8BE was whisper quiet. I assume you're running the Delrin spur and not metal? I ran the same spur for an entire year on my first RC8BE without issue. I also ran an all Tekin lineup in my rig, the T8's are very smooth and quiet to boot.

What kind of noises are you hearing?

I run the Tekin, nice setup. I'm also running the factory spur gear. I think mine is pretty quiet. And if I want to put it up on a stand and test it, in the house, I can.

maybe its fine, i was just curious. but one other thing, i hear people talking about cogging what is that?

Cogging is sorta like when the ESC delays and "sputters" when you hit the throttle on sensorless systems, my MMM doesnt really do it that much but it can be noticeable sometimes. I havn't ran my 8TCEe yet and that has a tekin in it so im excited to see the smoothness and difference.
---My question is that is there any company that makes an aluminum front part of the center diff mount. The only complaint i have about this buggy is that everything comes loose so quick on me. And i cant stand the fact that you really cant "Lock" the screws in when they attach to plastic. Any help would be great!! Thanks

It's the noise the motor makes while turning. The hesitaton from the strength of the magnets in the motor can. Tekin being sensored is a lot smoother with this operation.

Thats great to know! Ive never raced in a ROAR sanctioned event but at least now i know ive got the required equipment.

Cogging does not occur in sensored motors because the sensor always knows what position the magnet is in at all times, which allows for low amounts of current to be applied to the magnet for smoother operation. The opposite can be said for a sensorless motor. The commutator has to locate the center of the magnet and then apply current to the motor depending upon which phase or position the magnet is in at that precise moment in time, the resulting feel is the magnet "jerking" into position as the current is applied to create movement.

The actual jerking you see and hear is the magnet inside the can moving into phase so that the commutator is able to measure back EMF and within a range know what position the magnet is in so as to start applying voltage. A sensored motor always knows what position the magnet is in at all times making initial response and throttle input more responsive resulting in a more linear feel to your sensored set up!


I believe KingHeadz and Fioroni both make split center diff mounts for the RC8 line of vehicles. However, if you have not already done so the first thing I would recommend you do is remove that POS stock motor mount that comes with the kit and throw it as far away from you as humanly possible. I hate that thing. Quite frankly it's the only poorly designed part on the car. Get yourself the Elite RC or Grid motor mount and your life will get exponentially easier when it comes to servicing your car at the track. Good luck with it and happy motoring!

Gregg I never thought I would hear myself saying this about a toy car part but that Grid mount is damn sexy! It makes my poor ERC mount look just plain homely in comparison. How much are the Grid mounts, if you don't mind me asking that is?
