Thanks Rex. Curious, why did you switch Sidewinder->Byron's?

Maybe I'll try Sidewinder of a couple of tanks, hopefully no issue going back to Byron's.

I run the nitro series with Kendall and Rex. Most people use Byrons because there is a few people that order in cases of Byrons to sell to the people in the nitro series. I think there is only a few people that run Dynamite Blue Thunder, because they are sponsored by Dynamite/Horizon hobby.

Byrons Race Blend 2 30% is the $hit!

Hey grubby, really sorry to hear about your engine, but I don't believe it's anything to do with the info you were given on here. Everyone on here is trying to be helpful, not give out bad info.
To be honest putting a race tune on your motor after only a couple of litres through it is probably not the best practice. It would have still been pretty tight at that stage.
As previously mentioned, if your using good fuel and blowing good smoke with a temp of 300, that doesn't really add up. I would get your temp gun checked out. That's one of the big problems with tuning to temps. Accuracy of heat guns is very dubious (and that's being kind). If you really want to keep an eye on temps, use the good old spit test method. It is as accurate as anything. Ideally the spit you wipe on the head should evapourate away completely in around 4 - 5 secs. If it's sizzling and bubbling the spit straight off the head in a second or so then it's too hot. That's really as much as you want to know about temps.
If your motor was blowing good smoke (at all times) and you still killed the motor, you have other problems (loose head bolts, air leak, but quite possibly tuning issues).

I´m considering trying the GO engines and I have been using a OS V-Spec and I´m satisfied with it but I would like a more mellow/controllable bottom.
It hits like hell on the bottom.
I´ve tried a couple of my friends Novarossi +4 engines with the exact same car/setup as my car including the same clutch-setup and damn it´s a nice engine... Smooooth and fast with good runtime.

Should I try the GX-3R, GX-5R or GX-7R if I would like an engine to perform like the +4?

Thanks for your time.
Hi harleyrules. The closest to the +4 out of those motors would be the GX-7R. It is softer on the bottom than the 5R, but has brilliant top end that you won't really appreciate until you run one These things are really strong from mid to top.
The 3R is very smooth, but does not have the top end of the 7R

Having said all that, the ultimate GO based buggy motor is the Massive Mods MG66 which is now available in the USA. It is a modded 6 Port motor that is smooth right through the rev range with incredible mid and top end (like the 7R on steroids).
The MG66 would be my first choice, followed by the GX-7R. I run all three motors at different tracks from time to time, so the comparison I have given is pretty accurate IMO. Cheers

Just like Ben said the Byrons is easier to get, it's made more local, only about 3 hours from me and they sponsor our Mn Nitro Series!

That is too bad about your engine. Send it to me and if it is fixable I will fix it for free, just pay for the rod or any parts it may need. I will also tell you if your carb was tuned well.
Where did you buy it from, they could maybe get it warrantied?

Glad you like the product. The 7R in a buggy is very nice
Have you thought of a GX-5R for your truggy ? More bottom end than the 7, but not quite as much top. Guess it depends on how open or tight your track is. Guys here run both motors in truggy, but the 5R is the more popular choice.

or the mg-66 you have for sale. It will push a truggy around very well.

+1 what grizz said on the MG66, smoothest motor on the market, go forward not sideways, faster lap times & longer run times.
you won't be disappointed.

You won't be disapointed Come back and tell us your thoughts on the 7R after you have a gallon or so through it.
