"A long ackerman plate will have smooth off-power steering and is more forgiving. The long ackerman plate will have more steering on-power. A short ackerman plate responds quicker and has more steering in the middle of the turn. A short ackerman plate is better suited to tight technical tracks."
I think that just about sums it up. The 2 plates do feel very different. I prefer the short plate personally. Just give them both a shot. It is 2 screws to swap them.

I am actually pretty happy with my setup since I installed those inclined spindles and carriers and went to the short ackerman plate. Why I am going to change it who the hell knows but I am willing to try for that little bit more.

You may want to run the bump steer up with the inclined spindles. That seems to be what everyone is doing, with the buggy at least. I haven't gotten the spindles yet, but they're on the way. Should make a dialed truck even better!

As for the spindles, read back a couple pages. They basically make the car more controlled when cornering. They are supposed to be better when steering in the bumps too.

Do you mean front and center? Either way, I can't really be of much help as I don't run the smart diffs. I have run the center before, but didn't like it too much.
