This time next week I will have my first Novarossi engine +4C, I have used OS and GRP's. From what I heard Nova's are good engines hope I wont be disappointed, time to be adopted by the Novarossi Family LOL.

Novarossi's were my first engines, I went with a r2r 21-4 from Monty, it came, I clutched it and went racing....totally painless engine, a complete breeze to tune(Odonnell 97T plug is what I prefer and have had great luck with) I have never had one bad day at the track due to engine probs, however I was lean bogging a tad on my last race due to the fact the mill was at 6 gall. and had a leaky front bearing......I got 6 gall. and only needed to replace a rod and went ahead and had Monty do cermaics f/r as well, rest of engine was perfect, the pinch is right where it should be, I wasnt afraid to let it see 260 and thats normally where it was at.....I ran a Ofna 053 pipe with the stock ] header and Byrons Gen2 fuel.........be anal about filter maintenance and these engines will give you countless days of great consistency and good results, if not it may not last a day, filter maintenance is a MUST........Im racing my 1/10 electric cars now as its winter here, but im ready for spring and some nitro.......Novarossi USA baby

these engines have the best seals period.......you dont need to gunk on aftermarket engine sealant ANYWHERE, not necessary with Novas........just MAKE SURE your air filter setup is good and tight, and keep your pre filters changed all day long and use a good grade filter oil like Lucky7.

Thanks for any help
If in a buggy; I liked the Mc8 plug with the 9853/41021 pipe combo.

Default Question for you guys.

My first Novarossi is a "Speed" 528X with a blue head. I think it's awesome! Any input on this? I got it used from a truggy I bought and it's like new with stupid pinch. I looked on line to see what it's worth, but couldn't find it. Must be an old one?

ENGINE RUN IN

use a heat gun to heat to 200 before you start at each step

You will have to play with the needles a little bit and cover the head of your engine with a pit rag (or similar)

do 3 heat cycles within the first tank at 190-210 degrees (3-5 min. intervals),
at idle on stand? yes.

then run it around on the ground gently only slightly rich keeping the temp between 210-230 (monitoring temps frequently ) careful not to let the engine get into its powerband , do this for about 1 full tank at a time but do not let it run out of fuel .do this for 3 tanks (cooling in between tanks), quarter throttle or so with short blips of more (full) throttle ..

not fast? slow pulls on the throttle in 30-40ft bursts .

then richen the needles a bit and run it about 190-210 on the track for 3 straight tanks monitoring temps frequently(every 2 laps) for the first couple of minutes until the engine runs at a consistent temp and feel.(start to lean out slowly)when you get it tuned in to where its not totally screaming but you have enough power to make the jumps with a slight bog at full throttle and runs at about 210-230, let it cool

(check the plug at this point),

what am I looking for exactly on the plug ? make sure the plug still glows and looks new, if it looks all distorted pull it out as you dont want a plug filament to go through the engine

go out and run the rest of the gallon til the engine richens up dramatically on its own and the temp drops instantly (i call it "dropping its nuts"). this process sometimes takes more than a full gallon .hope this helps ya , pretty detailed

I have had great success with this method and longevity , monty

I let Monty do ALL my engine work including break in. I change glow plugs, thats about it. When it needs opened up/serviced, I send it off to get the best tech work possible. I dont want to have second thought's about my engines......chassis' are enough to deal with on raceday, I want my engines to be flawless and ready to rock, I am not willing to sacrifice setup time on my cars because I tried to be a hero and screwed my engines up

JMO and the way I roll, I know some guys like to do there own stuff, I do everything on my own but engines

for this season i have got a p5xlt it is about broke in at 3 quarts ..running super good and strong ...have not put it on the track but will soon ...also picked up +4c ..i just got about 500cc of fuel through it the other week at
Alan Burtons SPEED SHOP ...he runs about 500-1000cc through them in a heat cycle method to get everthing seated right ...i feel it is a great way to get the motors on there way ...some may disagree ...but i have always like the bench ..here are some pics of my 4c at the speed shop ..i got just over 500 cc through it ..everything went great heat cycling up to 215 the cooling down in 5 minute intervals ..then after the first few tanks idling at temp and then cooling down ..heres the pics ...check out his thread . .he has provided many racers some super good services and at a price thats right

THE SPEED SHOP
