My thought was to run 5s batteries to go with the 1700kv motor and the rpm's should be good for longer run times and cooler operating temps. But my question is will the weight of the 5s battery on one side of the car compared to the weight of the motor on the other side, make the car lopsided? Is this something to think about, or does the little bit of weight difference not significant? Thanks

it depends on you and your driving style. if you are a conservative type of person, go 1700kv. you will be able to hang with ANY nitro, lower temps, and longer run time. AND if you REALLY need the extra UMPF, put a 6S in there. but in general, if you want something blazing fast and if you are liberal :0), get the 1900KV.

in regards of the heavy pack, you should not have to run anything over 4300mah packs. and a 4300mah 5S pack is not TOO bad. i think 5000mah on a buggy is an over kill. i can get over 20 mins on a 4K 5S pack in my buggy. also, just try to make sure u put all your other components on the opposite side of the lipo pack. Truggy's are a lot less affected!!!

HAPPY RACING!!!

To those of you that are running the RX8 in an 808, is there enough room to mount the esc behind the battery? I haven't got the rc-monster battery or motor mounting kits yet and would rather mount the esc behind the batter than buy a top plate to mount it on.

Thanks!

Edited to add another question:

Using the stock center diff and spur, what range of pinions would you recommend in the box for 1700kv on 5s. I was thinking 14-17.

Thanks Teeforb. I think I will wait for a 1900kv because it looks like it will give me more flexibility.

Will the top half of the RX8 come off so if we don't run a fan there won't be an unneccessary piece of plastic sitting on top?

In regards to fan I think the question is is it ok to remove it and leave it off as an option?

Anyone have an idea what to gear and RC8 with the 46t spur, the 2050 motor on a 4s pack? Also, any suggestions on mounting this speed control?I have the e-conversion from associated and was concerned with hard mounting the speed control.Any tips?I also recommend as was said earlier by Randy, when wiring, its a good idea to wire to allow flex so the wires do not break off a post.Saw it happen the other day because of too tidy a wiring job.Looks great but is hard on the speed control.Other then that,I have never felt such control in the MMM system ever.If the tekin stands up to the test of durability,it will be impossible for Castle to match its smooth power delivery.

On the RC8 start your gearing around 16-17 stock spur with the 2050 on 4s. You can use some GOOD double stick tape like the clear 3m stuff to hold it down. I personally recomend screwing it down to the esc plate on that conversion.

I ALWAYS recomend allowing some extra slack on the wires for movement. If anything like a chassis brace were to get go and the chassis flexed its going to allow everything to move.

I reccomend using the fan at all times. I'm not saying that you "need" it all the time but it's got a purpose. I've done a lot of testing without it but when I'm racing I have it on. I'd hate to get a DNF because I didn't have my fan on. I've ran back to back to back packs on the 2050 and 1900 bith without the fan and have only managed 5 led's with the ambient around 80. But come this summer I'm sure we'll see those 5 led's with the fan if I did the same test.

SC8E , with the new Tekin RX8 1700kv. Programming was very easy, mounting and wiring also went smoothly.

At first I was worried to see the fan cut off 5 seconds after turning on , but now I realize it only comes on after 140 degrees.

A nice solid speed control , and great looking motor. Until now , I have prefered the Novak HV escs , and they too are excellent, but I have popped a couple of them in not so hard runs.

I am hoping the Tekin will last longer , the whole unit looks great. I am wondering , is there a way to reprogram ,and allow the fan to always run?

Having always been a "fan on" type of guy , I prefer to keep things under 120 degrees. If I cant reprogram it , I will reroute power , and run a seperate fan from the reciever.

Two thumbs up for Tekin on the RX8 !

Nice install!

Currently there are no provisions for fan temp adjustment. I expect you will find that it will stay relatively cool with the current operation. Try it and see how many led's you have after a run.

Got to run the RX8 combo today for the first time. First practice run out, I instantly noticed how much smoother it is on the low end and on braking. Car felt really good, right up until IT happened. Car made a loud gear grinding screech and rolled off the track to a stop. Quick look under the body to check the pinion gear. It was out past the spur gear and not meshing. At first I thought the pinion just slide out and needed better loctite on the set screw. But, while trying to fix it, I noticed the motor shaft itself was wiggling side to side an excessive amount. When I got the pinion back in place, I then saw the motor shaft was sticking out WAY too far past the pinion. Pulled the motor out and took the end cover off (nice design, BTW, very easy to access the front bearing) and pulled the rotor out. The magnets have detached mechanically from the motor shaft and let the motor shaft slide out. The rear shaft spacer has been mushroomed in from the shaft sliding out far enough to no longer be in the rear bearing. The kevlar thread wrapping on the rotor is chewed away on the rear of the magnets from grinding on the field coils. It WILL be sent back to Tekin for warrantly replacement on Monday. But, with a cash race next Saturday, I guess I will be buying a new 2050 motor from Amain or Stormer this weekend to have it in time. Had planned on getting one anyway, just not so soon. Hope the new motor holds up better than this one did.

2650 motor, geared for ~37mph top speed (4.3 tranny-46/14) Motor was 140 when I pulled it rolled off the track.

Do I get a prize for being the first one to post about breaking a new Tekin system? Actually, I'll settle for a motor that wont do this again.
