hi dave,
i'm shocked that you're having problems getting runtime from the sti!
maybe as mentioned, using lower nitro content helps runtime, but i use 16% runertime and i bring the car in after a 5 minute qualifier and check the tank to see how much fuel is being used by lifting the car into a vertical position and the fuel level in the tank is just under the tank lid hinge bracket, so there is probably another 3-4.5 minutes left of runtime
i'm using the sirio pipe and whatever shims were in it from the factory.
also the engine runs like a clock and idles nicely when i bring it in and is running 110-120 c temp in my mtx4!

From another racer or two are saying the Evo 3 breaks conrods easily. Is this just a common issue or a lack of maintainance issue? I can drive to get a OS engine, but with my new local LHS nearby I'd rather just bag the Sirio for the 260-270 for it.

I have about two gallons on my sti so far so good this is about the time when I will replace my conrods..after 2 gallons....some people do it sooner.....I wish I could....preventive maintenance is a good thing

Hmm so it's all mumbo Jumbo then eh? Well, if this LHS here can get me the parts then Sirio it is. I'm just wondering if it will do great with the Nova CTF #7 plug I've been using.

Hey Joe, you might need that extra fuel because your STI is about to be modded KICKASS RACING style. I hope you can handle the extra horse power. And dont worry it will still make run time. You can try it on Sunday.
Bring on the worlds.

Hark my man there is no problem with evo 111 rods, just run good fuel and replace rods after decent run time and you will be ok. I have run 7 evo 111s and have not blown a rod yet, unlike my ols picco based collaris which I have about 15 broken rods in my garage. evo 111 is a very good engine, STI even better.

handling the extra power remains to be seen, at least straight line speed wont be a problem, not that it was with the stock motor
i hope that the motor does'nt KICKMYASS!!

Ok guys i have a bit of a problem atm with my evo3. After a straight it seems run on a bit before it settles back to idle. Now a couple of meetings ago it started doing this and was quite bad to the point where it was keeping the clutch engaged and i couldnt pull the car up, found the front bearing had a bit of play in it so i raplaced it. Went for a run and was still doing it, no where near as bad but still holding the rpm for a period of time. i found that the back plate was leaking so i sealed it up and its better again but still doing it, its not holding as much RPM for as long but still not the way i remember it. I was looking at the engine last night and found that the crank seems to have a bit excess endplay (forward/backward movement) and was thinking this could be some of the problem. I have also tried 2 different carbs on it same result and tred richening the bottom end up and it doesnt make any difference. What are your guys thoughts?

Cheers Daniel

Hi Itchy,

I had problems making run time at the Great Lakes Challenge because the track was huge. At smaller tracks, I'm not worried at all. I'll get this thing sorted out.

I'll be giving the Novarossi 2630 another try this coming weekend. It'll be at a track similar in size as the GLC.

Hey Robert, would you ever give a 21T second gear pinion a try for the Toledo track?

Dave

As far as i am aware the third screw is just a blank off, but hey i could be wrong.

I did find when i went home for lunch that the o ring in the crank case where the carb goes was a bit suspect, the flange around where the carb and crank case meet was very wet with fuel. So i am thinking this may have been my problem.

Cheers Daniel
