ToolkitRC M8D Charger

I had somewhat of a similar issue. I used the USB cable supplied with the charger. However my windows 11 OS wouldn’t recognize the charger at all. I had to boot into Ubuntu linux. The charger mounted properly as an external drive and I was able to copy the firmware file over to the charger.

I find that the charger is very picky at what port it communicates with. It needs a USB A port with USB 3 speeds, and an USB A to Type C cable in order for it to the recognized by the computer. Ive successfully connected to my charger with a Type C port, using a Type C to USB A adapter, and an USB A to C cable. I know its stupid, but seems like its the only way it would work.

Edit: Decided to download it and see if they included the change log within the package, sure enough they did
===M8D V3.07===2025.03.03===
1. Fixed the warning of overcurrent when the current reaches more than 20A when the dual channels are charged at the same time
2. Fix the voltage drift of more than 20A when the output is in dual-channel simultaneous power supply mode.
3. Modify the start voltage of balancing, default -100mV to the always.

yeah my MacBook didn’t recognize it either. If you’re technically inclined you can try a Ubuntu live boot usb stick. Mine is a full install, so I’m not sure if it’ll pick up the charger as an external drive or not. Worth a shot if you don’t want to bother with a full install, especially if you aren’t a computer person.

Anyone looked into or tried the resistor bank discharge function on V3.06 firmware? I was watching their Youtube video and reading through the update manual with the resistor bank discharge function and it combines the internal discharge power and the external resistor bank to give you extra discharging power. To my understanding, since the internal discharge function on the charger is capped at 10A, does this mean for a 2s pack, Im ONLY adding an extra ~50W discharge power? No matter how powerful my external discharger bank is? If so, then this doesnt seem its worth the hassle to setup a resistor bank just for an extra 50W for 2s. Maybe worth it for people with 8s packs.

So, nothing has worked so far. I also tried it with a Linux Ubuntu system on a USB stick, but it wasn't recognized either. I tried different cables, computers and USB ports. I even tried a Y USB cable where the power is taken from 2 USB ports, but nothing happens.

If you dont have any usb 3.0 ports, then you can use a type C port, but you must use type C to usb A adaptor first, then a type A to type c cable to the charger. It doesnt work if you connect your charger with a type C to type C cable.

Like i said before, you need a usb 3.0 type A port. It doesnt work if the usb is a legacy 2.0 port,
