my mephisto GT came with a short needle that leaves the spray bar at about 1/4 throttle, when i tried the longer needle from the 069 type carb if it wasnt out from flush with the housing it would be super lean down low and fat at about 1/3rd to half throttle. with the short needle its fat as hell with the hsn at like 2.25 turns from closed and the LSNat 3 from fully closed(ran 150cc dry in 3.5 min lol). I also changed the fuel tank when i changed the LSN back to the shorty, just trying to bounce ideas around before i start swapping carbs around again to save myself an hour or two of messing around with it. I was thinking it was a lack of pressure at low rpms, I can understand the the short needle will allow more fuel at idle i guess changing both the tank and needle at the same time has me confused as to what really was making the difference. I just thought it was odd when i go over most of the "onroad/gt" novas come with the 11041 lsn so I figured I would ask if the longer LSN would cause a lean condition down low

I also checked my newer Ielasi Raptor GT5's and these have the alu onroad carb and short LSN and these engines have way more power overall. The short LSN in these engines measure 1.80mm IN from flush as set the last time I ran them. Run time is pretty decent but not as good as the stock Mephisto and so I usually only use my Mephisto at tracks where I struggle with run time as we run 7 minutes qualifying in Europe for GT8.
The long LSN will cause the engine to run leaner of course for more of the throttle movement compared to the short needle and the engine tune is more affected overall when running a long LSN.

must have been a fueling issue stuck the long lsn back in and she ran like a champ and exactly the same for 25 min. My mephisto gt5 was built feb 13 and came from walter hobby in Oz i wonder if a running change was made or they are slightly different when sold to a "hot" climate. Or typical nova throw whatever parts are around at the time in it LOL. Im actually running it in a 1/8th truck offroad 41033/2108.it was running awesome the first race of the year but i ran out of my usual fuel and they went out of business at the same time so had to switch, fuels the tank got changed for the first time at the same time and i just assumed the tank sealed well as it was new. should have known when everything gets super wonky check the fueling system first, then clutch, then the motor.

I am new to Nitro (other than an HPI R2R like 15 years ago). I picked up an NT1 and Im trying to figure out what to get for it. I know the is rather open ended but, what are the differences in the Nova .12 engines? Mephisto vs MITO vs ISON. I see some come with ceramic and some have steel ball bearings. Which is better in a Nitro engine? The other question I have is what is a good tuned pipe and manifold? Nova seems to be recommending the "51010- (EFRA 2015)". Do I want one manifold over another or do I pick one that fits the car?

The 2015 pipe is for an .21 engine so it never can be advised with a .12. I think you are a bit confused because Novarossi is using a same name on both size of engines. So look again on the Novarossi site.....
With Novarossi there is just one rule, the higher the price the faster it is configured. Because it is your first real racer I will suggest not to take the most expensive because you will not use its maximum potential. The ISON is a lower priced engine but still a good performing one.
Steel bearing or ceramic does not matter, on paper performance wise the ceramic runs better, on the track it is hard to tell the difference.

The newer manifolds have less curve to them and are called 90 degree manifolds. Seems to be the latest trend and they do develop slightly more power overall and I have had a little better runtime with them in 1/8. Not a huge upgrade but if you need a new manifold then go for one of the new 90 degree ones.

Just think 41013L is long for more bottom end (technical short tracks) 41013S is short for more top end (bigger more open tracks). We use 41013S almost always on most tracks. The 41014 I believe is pretty much the same length overall as the 41013S but it is even more straight than the others meaning that it doesn't bend down at all. I haven't personally tried the 41014 manifold myself but I do believe it is the most powerful of the 3.

I think I am going with a Mito .12, a 51614 tuned pipe and a 41616 manifold and 30013 air filter, C6TGF glow plug.
Do I need to buy any exhaust gaskets or springs .. or anything else. I have only built a nitro kit that came with everything.

Please note that your pipe and manifold combination will work but is far from optimal. For that engine you should be running the 2660/51615 pipe with the 41613-S manifold. (The pipe you chose is no longer EFRA homologated if that matters to you and is all top end - not what you want for 1/10 gas).
The INS box that you chose is the red coloured 1/10 unit which is correct but was discontinued by Novarossi sometime ago. If you found one cool however as a backup plan the black one everyone uses is 30017.
