I hope there are no compromises in the chassis having both configurations available. There's a big hole in the chassis when the T-plate isn't used. I guess it'll just be the inherent chassis flex.

Still very nice though. First time I'm getting a look at it on screen instead of my phone. It's got a lot of nice little details.

Does it look to you like it will allow for a transverse mounted shorty battery? Hopefully it does.

It looks like it will fit a transverse battery with either the T-plate or the links. You just have to move the links outwards and it looks like Tamiya provides you with holes for that.

I don't know where you get that idea from... I own a trf102 and the only parts that look the same to me are the top deck/tbar mounts and the diff/axle/hubs

Tamiya was first to release any formula class. Now that the RC community has made it a real racing class, Tamiya will continue to develop and enhance the formula chassis.

Just about everyone at my local track was running Tamiya until early 2015. Probably 80-90% until early 2015.

I have a TRF101 and its the best feeling car I have ever owned. That said I have a new Fenix Mistral that I'm told will make me forget I ever had such feelings. I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing how this car does when it comes out.

Correction, "former" local track

Looking through the manual shows the car to not accomidate the transverse battery placement of of newer cars or as much camber/caster adjustment as other current generation cars. The new front end is clearly heavier and trades the 1deg camber settinging for a 12deg caster option. The t-bar mounts like on the f104 but with the pitch pivot point behind the battery instead of underneath.

Regarding transverse battery position, here is Kiyo Suzuki's car from the TITC.

Yes it can be easily modified to fit but out of the box the cross brace is is shaped for inline use only.


For many the apeal of a new tamiya f1 is a the ability to have a car that is tcs legal and competative with other manufactures. Modifying the car to make it competative with others results in tcs racers continuing to need 2 cars, 1 for tcs and 1 for everything else.

you really can't tell from the picture if anything was modified to fit, all it looks like is he mounted the battery transversely and held it in place with tape. Since he was running the link set-up, the t-bar was a non factor.
