I think it depends on the weight of the car.
The strength of the motor depends on the diameter of the cylinder and the pressure of the steam.
My engine has two cylinders. Diameter 20mm. The boiler produces steam at 1.5 kg / cm square. It could withstand double the pressure without problem. Pressure tests were performed at 13 kg. Per cm. square.
The approximate force per cylinder = 3 kg.

Thanks for the info. This is the motor i was looking at Creative Steam Engine Model Toy Hot Air Engine Model V-2 Steam Engine w/ Boiler | eBay it really cheap but i really can't tell the difference between that and a 500 dollar one

The bad thing is the boiler. It produces steam at very low pressure and provides little power to the engine.
