If you look at the pic, the ackerman balljoints are way above the belt, where most people complain about them rubbing very slightly on the belt.
So they're definitely higher.
I suppose it also depends on how you want your bump steer set as well.

you can only run blades on the steel/alu outdrives. the stock plastic outdrives are pretty much consumables, so either change them periodically, or upgrade to steel.

That's good to know. The plastic outdrives are around 10 € here, while the alu is 20 € and the steel is 30 €. I guess with either of them you will just change blades only. I wonder if this is cheaper in the long run.

+1 for spring steel spool outdrives and orange blades. Black blades are fine too, just need to be replaced a little more often. I replace all blades before any big race anyway.

for stock (13.5 blinky) the blades running fine for several runs but needs to be replaced.
i use in front steel outdrives and blades from spec-R, very cheap and need to replace them 2 times in a weekend.

in the back i use the orange version of xray and last forever (almost 6 month`s)

the plastic outdrives getting a lot of space after a couple of runs.

also i think the blades are only usable with the 52mm CVD`s .

My school of thought, too... I wish my fingers would follow though

Been working on putting my kit together last few nights. My first X-ray kit and so far really impressed. So much so I I almost want to switch my Offroad stuff as well really impressed with the quality of all the parts.

Only issue so far is I only got two shock springs. Missing a pair. First time I've had missing parts in a kit.

best to go with steel outdrives at front as it would last longer thus, cheaper in the long run. Have used alu outdrives before since steel was hard to get at the hobby shop, still bends (though minimal) with medium/hard impacts and I'm only running 17.5 blinky. Spec R has really strong and good steel outdrives for the xray platform that doesn't even require you to use the blades (if you are looking for a cheaper alternative).

Thank you for the valuable feedback. Since my plastic outdrives are brand new I will run them until they need replacement and then I will go for the steel ones.

I received the narrow pinions yesterday and not suprisingly they are a perfect fit together with a xray spur.
  • You can mount them with the narrow end pointing towards the motor,
  • You can still access the grub screw from the top (without removing anything)
  • You have a nice clearing to the belt. (about a millimeter)
